I have a vet appt this week and am going to get a list of all the prices to see how they compare with prices down south!

Can someone say the average time of the females life you get her tested? Right before the heat cycle she is ready to mate? Right after/before the 1 heat cycle? Or anytime before you are (and she is) ready to breed her?

When you take all your new dogs to the vet for their checkups before breeding ask HIM.

I only wish I could get my dogs shots and testing done as cheap as you seem to think we breeders do. Bile acid tests for my dogs, breeding and puppies run $75.00 per dog/pup, health test for legs and general health runs 100.00 per dog/pup, tail docking/dew claws on newborn pups are 25.00 per pup. Blood tests run 80 to 150 per animal. I get my puppies micro chipped and that runs 35 per animal. When I get my females checked prior to breeding it costs me about 150.00 then there are x-rays prior to birth at 70-120, and if it is going to be a C-section the blood tests each day to check if pup is ready to be born that is 55.00 each day. My last puppy that was a C-section cost me over 1800.00 by the time it was born, add to that 3 sets of puppy shots and micro chipping and that pup will have cost me approx 2300.00 for a single puppy. NOw if I were to sell this puppy, I sell my pets at 1200.00 so I really make a great profit, right. Only this pup is being kept to see if she will be a show dog, as that is the whole reason that I bred in the first place.

Um.... OKAAAAAY?.. all I asked was for someone to say the price they pay when dealing with test (I didn't said anything about the puppies) and their location. And have you not read the other posts? I said those prices as an example and so it is around the prices that they have mentioned..... It's great you are willing to pay all of that for a puppy. Again, I don't know why I needed to know this...

And to add, NO ONE said you made a profit. The someone said that a lot of breeders do and she said an example. Someone (I think it was you) said that they had to get test done and include things for the puppy and at the end you don't make anything. All that that person mentioned in the post (saying they paid for crate, blankets, shots, etc.) I had did an average of cost and at the end it was still a profit. And even if you sell the that one puppy less than what you spent on him/her you still can off set it or make a profit from a different litter.....

I'm not a breeder. I don't even have my puppy home with me yet but, we just took our Golden in for her yearly check up and shots a few weeks ago. For the visit, check up, vacinations and her heartworm meds for 6 months, it was $52 and some change.

I'm in SW Indiana.

I know that doesn't answer the OP's question, but goes to show the difference in prices even in the same state and probably from vet to vet.

If you don't want to know the truth, then don't ask. I have not changed the topic, I answered what you asked. I get the feeling that you seem to think that all breeders make money off their puppies, but if they do not breed to just sell, then they don't make a profit. I won't be able to get a profit from a different litter anytime in the near future, as I do not breed to just sell puppies, but only to get a dog that I can show. I stated what the expenses are in my area, and I know that here it costs less than a lot of other places, but it still all adds up.

She was trying to explain how I was wrong at the end of the thread that is now close. But then she added what the cost are and location she is at...

Baron: Again, I didn't say all people make profits... I said a lot of people. I'm sure there are many breeders that breed once or twice a year for their selves and sell their puppies to a loving family and make nothing because they weren't trying to. I get that. But there's a reason why they are the #2 most popular. And I'm pretty sure not all of them is not trying to make a profit?... I know we are going to continue to disagree but again this is my opinion..... Yeah, and thanks for staying on topic...I'm sure I wasn't. :)

The question was asked and I replied, if you did not like the answer you did not have to read it. I'm sorry if it bothers you that costs can be explained to people that want to know. Yorkies being the #2 dogs wanted have nothing to do with breeders, but rather with them being seen with movie stars and other popular people, and their size. Some breeders and puppymillers have jumped on the band wagon and figured it was a way to make a profit, and don't worry about health, structure, personality or other desireable traits. Also, yorkies being the #2 most popular dog, really has nothing to do with the costs of the tests that reptuable breeders have done for the sake of the dogs. Every breed has some problems that good breeders will test for, besides the normal health tests. You just need to be vigilent when you are looking for a pet to take into your family.

Again, It's my opinion (Well, really a fact about some breeders making a profit) and about 8 other people agrees with me (told me so through PM) so I guess 8 people are wrong. And I guess some people don't realize that not all breeders don't make a profit. In some peoples world, No breeders make a profit. I'm glad I'm living in this one.. :) ... again, MY OPNION... Cody, If you re read the post, you will see that I said that the puppymillers and BYB's DO make profits. If you are trying to stay on topic, then why do you keep repeating the same ole thing? I answered about the costs, and that some people THINK, we make profits, when those of us that care and try to produce good healthy dogs do not.

If you are so knowledgeable about the vet costs for these tests in all of the nations areas, I would love to know so that I could find a decent vet that knows about toy dogs and is more reasonable for the tests. Please post the vets names, locations, and referances so I can lessen my expenses.
