I have one female who I have never seen blood on but I think she keeps herself so clean. I know she is in heat because of swelling and the rest sniffing her,but no bloody show. I have never done the Qtip thing. |
I just wanted to add something here. In my case, Maggie's heat cycle has been in November and May. Her first heat was a silent heat. I never knew until after it was over and I decided to wash her blankets on her bed. Saw dried spots of blood and figured it out. I totally missed her second one also. It wasn't until last year when I took her to Yorkie Fair and she lunged at a chinese crested dog. Well she was bred, had her pups in august and then she had a split heat that started the end of November she had swelling and some bleeding but that was it. then a little over 2 weeks ago she was in heat again. I talked to my vet and she explained that with split heats the first part is usually like the proestrus phase and then it stops and could start back up in 2 weeks or it could take up to 2 months before her heat starts back up again. Now normally after having done lots of bookreading and research and getting different answers I would have been skeptical. But I have witnessed it myself. |
Well she bred today. It took him awhile to get interested, so she may not have taken on this one, but they tied for about 15 mins or so...aaannnndddd we'll do it again Saturday and then Monday. So I guess I'll find out what happens in a couple months...:p :) |

I have had a york have no bleeding. The first time she only had a tiny bit it was as if she had a scratch and I didn't think about it. The next time she went into heat nothing and the only way I knew it was the way she acted and flagged. Now I have another one and seems she might be this way also. Didn't know it was called a silent heat but that is the way they act. |
