Pregnant Yorkie...Advice please! Hi everyone! I have a yorkie who is pregnant coming up on 59 days. She wont let me leave her site and her temperature has dropped from 99.3 to 98.4 but still no puppies. When are the little things going to come out? She keeps laying in her box and when I sit down she lays in my lap and wont move. I havent heard her bark in 2 days. Any advice. And also is it just a myth about dogs delivering their puppies at night? What should I expect after her temperature has dropped so much? |
Gosh, I hope you are more prepared for this than it sounds. A very good site for whelping information is this site..... http://www.debbiejensen.com Please read everything on it and anything else you can google on canine pregnancy and whelping. Good Luck and let us know when the big day is here. We will be watching and will be here to help any way we can. |
I am very prepared.... just nervous. She is my baby I just want her to be as comfortable as possible. |

Again....good luck to you and keep us posted! I'll be watching for that happy news.:D |
Dogs deliver 63 day from the day the eggs are released from the ovaries, not 63 days from when they bred, so unless you did progesterone testing to determine day of ovulation she may delvier before you think and that may be ok... When did her temp drop? and how long did it stay down? They can have short temp drops where the temp will stay down for a couple hours then return to normal, these just signal drops in Progesterone...when she is ready she will drop her temp and it will stay down for 12-24 hours...then hard labor will begin! Best wishes for an easy delivery, let us know how she is doing... |
I have two girls that always have puppies on the 59th day from the first tie. One more that goes 63-65 days (she is spayed now). So far, I have been fortunate to not have a night delivery. doesn't mean I sleep tho for about a week before and a week after. My x-pen with the whelping box is at the foot of my bed. i just lay across the foot of the bed so I can hear every little sound. Sometimes, the temp goes up and down for a few days but usually when it is 98 for about about twelve hours straight, I have babies. Sometimes it will drop to that range then go back up a little for a day or so then drop again to the 98 range. This is usually when my puppies are born. After the second drop. |
On Monday her temp was 99.9 and then yesterday it kept dropping to 99.3 then this morning it was at 98.6 and then I just took it 30 mins ago and it was 97.9 98.0 so her temp has been 98-99 for a complete 24 hours. Im just patiently waiting. This is her second litter but a mom is always nervous for her baby. When she delivered the first time she didnt even cry. So I am hoping when she actually starts whelping its as easy for her as it was last time! Thank you everyone for your help it is greatly appreciated! April:) and Hanna:aimeeyork |
98.6 may not have been low enough for her...we have had some girls drop their temps as low as 96.4, most are in the 97's... I personally would not consider 99.3 or 98.6 a drop... |
good luck to you. looks like puppies may be on their way. keep up posted. i can stay up til may be 10:30 tonight and keep ck'g in. I ALWAYS HAVE BEER ON HAND WHEN THEY WHELP. IT TAKES THE EDGE OFF ME. but don't have too many, if you swing the puppy, you might just swing him across the room. |
Ok that sounds great! I'll keep that in mind! I have a great feeling they will come tonight! I'm so stressed out! I wont even leave the house!:( Poor thing looks so miserable. I wish I could make her feel better. April :( Hanna :aimeeyork |
The temps look like it should be tonight or early morning. Even being prepared, it can be very nerve wracking for sure. Best wishes for a smooth delivery. |

A friend of mines Bichon had a 97.9 for 2 days before she whelped.. |
