Need help with fading pup Well the lady with the pups called me this morning, The two the breeder is caring for is doing good, fat and healthy, She has another momma dog she can put them on when needed, The two the lady is caring for is going down hill, skinny . She woke up this morning to one fading pup cold and stiff mouth open, she tried to feed him, I told her she should never feed a cold pup, she needs to warm him first . well shes bring them both to me in hopes that I can bring the male around, But Im so afraid its to late, I told her Id do what I can but sense she already forced him to eat and he was cold it could of got in his lungs and if it did he could have or get pneumonia, I aske dif he was dehydrated but she didnt know I told her how to lift the skin on the back of his neck to check. I really dont think shes feeding them as often as they need, theres a big difference in the ones the breeders caring for and the ones shes caring for. Her best choice would be to trade off on the pups putting the weaker ones with The breeder and her taking on the stronger bigger ones. I told her to put a little karo syrup on their tongues or feed a little sugar water if they are warm. She didnt even know to burp the babys, so I guess Im gonna try and take them in and see if I can help. Is there any thing else I can do to help these pups? |
I'll I can do is send prayers and "Bump" this post so that it stays near the top....one of our wonderful, experienced members will hopefully see this soon. |
Oh gosh......I'm no help to you except to offer you prayers:hands: and hugs:bighug: . I'm glad to hear the two are doing well and hope that you or someone can help bring the other ones around the turn for the better. Good luck to everyone involved and sending prayers your way:hands: |
If you have some pedialyte, you could tube feed it (recommended) or bottle. Pedialyte will help if it's dehydrated of course.... There's also liver juice... it's a sticky in this forum. It works sometimes, if that's what the puppy is in specific need of. It's certainly worth a try. |
When I had a weak one I fed every 2 hours night and day and added Karo syrup and baby rice cereal to the milk replacer. I think it is extremely important to have frequent feedings. I think it is great that you are willing to help like this, I know it's not easy and very stressful but sooo rewarding. Best wishes to you and the pups. |
I think Kimberly King posted something on here awhile back about boiling beef liver, straining it and giving it to fading puppies. not sure tho. pm her and ask. You are a real sweetheart for trying to save these babies. Wonder if they need to be on Iv's at the vet office? |
I think I'd be taking them to the vet... |

I hope all goes well, let me know if I can help.. |
Thanks guys for all the prayers and info. Me and Hubby have been feeding them every two hours and they are keeping warm now. also been giving the smaller one a drop of Nutri-drops every feeding just a small drop that I rub on the gums. and giving the bigger girl one drop 2 x a day. I just weighed them the girl is 13 3/4 and the boy is 12 3/4 that was the first time they have been weighed and it was right after they both ate and went potty. is that a good weight for 3 weeks old pups? they just turned 3 weeks today. I am so in love with them already if they make it and I pray that they do, its going to be a sad day when they go back home. The Breeder who took the other two in is keeping one because she used her stud for the mating and shes buying the other one, both females. I think the lady who owns them is keeping one and that leaves one. I dont know if she has this other one already sold or what, but Im sure gonna ask her. They was hungry when they got here, she said she already feed the bigger one before she got here but not the smaller weak one, Now I would of feed the weakest one first. so anyways the little girl is a big and drinks hers streaight down I have to pull it out to burp her and boy does she get mad lol. The little boy was very hungry he ate good too, finished off each feeding good for me so far. she told me she said I know Im bad but I dont pee them every time. eeek. I told her thats a must. well Im just happy to help them and I cant help but fall in love with those little sweet faces. will share pictures later. I dont want to handle them to much. |
4 Attachment(s) I got a few quick pictures after they ate. |

YorkieShadow you are an angel to these babies. I will be praying for you and them. |
thats great weights for their age, that is a good sign, I am sure with your extra care they should begin to thrive, providing they have no health/genetic issues. bless you for taking them in and your diligence keep us posted |

I ran out of goats milk today, the lady only brought one open can and it only lasted until noon today, and shes out of town, so I called Mickeys breeder where she had been getting the goats milk from any ways and she said well I gave her 5 cans why would she only bring you 1 can, so she told me to comeand get three more cans , so I did. The little boy is doing great he was the weak one, The little girl we had a scare with she is a piggy when she eats and well I thought the hole in the nipple was to big because she would just down it and choke. well It came out her nose and I used a syringe to try an dget what I could. I know that can go in their lungs and can be deadly. so her next feeding she didnt want any and I started to worry. she sounds clear and im keeping an eye on her, Well this feeding she ate really good so I hope thats a good sign, I wont be using that bottle again it looks like the lady had cut the whole end off, was to much for these pups. so I tried useing one that I had for the kittens but they didnt seem to like that, so I pulled out one of Makenzies old bottles, I know the nipples big but they love it. so if it works for them it works for me. The heating pad she brought keeps turning off, that was a pain to watch all night. didnt get much sleep. But today I found my old one and it stays on all the time unless turned off, so we will use that. The momma dog is only 3 lbs and the father dog is only 2 lbs so they are smaller pups. But The lady shouldnt even of breed such a small female, she said shes had a few litters 4-5 pups each time and has never had a problem, I said well you got lucky then. Yesterdays weight was Boy 12 3/4 Girl 13 3/4 Today Boys 13 3/8 Girl 14 3/8 so they did gain a little, but I weighed them both right after they ate on both weights. should I weigh them before they eat? I dont know what to do on the 21 because Im going out of town with my daughter 3D 4D U/S and then to dinner and out to shop for baby furniture. and I want to go to the US and I cant ask if they will bring me all the way back and not go shopping because its a two hr drive. and I hate to call that lady to come get them dragging them in and out in the cold. ha I sound like their mine. lol but you now what I mean. Last night after 3 yeras of sleeping with me Mickey and Minnie would not come sleep with me. I slept on the couch so I could keep and eye on the pups and keep turning the heating pad back on. and Minnie would pace back and forth, I had to get up and pick her up, and take her back to bed with me, but she refused to sleep in my arms like shes done for 3 years. she did sleep by my legs. Mickey slept in the chair then couldnt take it any more and by 8:00 am they was both with me giving me many kisses. I guess they for give me for bring the pups in. They are jealous. |
You should weigh them at the same time everyday .... before eating (my preference) or after, as long it's one or the other. |
