Cozy's pregnant
 

:rolleyes: Up until a few days ago, Cozy continued to hump stuffed lab then completely stopped. She had zero interest in food. She was also throwing up some. Vet decided to due a pregnancy test along with other blood work. She came up positive. The only time she could have been near a unaltered male dog was when I dropped her off to have some light grooming down Dec. 13, 2007. I know this because while she was in heat she was on total lockdown except at the groomers. The owner of the shop denies it but one of the shop girls says it is possible because Cozy was crying so they let her out of the kennel without thinking because she gets along with the other dogs. The shop girl I talked to said it was "Benny," three year old yorkie male. I am not looking for money at this point because I feel responsible for this mess because I dropped her off at the groomers and did not wait for her to be done and take her home right away. Should I call Benny's owners? I don't plan to DNA test the puppies because Cozy's breeder decided to hold her papers until I spayed her. So even if Benny is the father which he probably is I can not sell the puppies as papered and the puppies will got to friends anyway. The breeder was not supposed to do this but I can't track her. She has not registered any new litters with AKC.

She should be due around Feb. 14 plus or minus a few days as per the vet. I think I have everything I need. I just need support now. I know I should have spayed her but this breeding is not my fault.

Its not your fault but it is that groomers fault. I would let Bennys owner know this has happened

I am divided as to whether to tell them or not. What about if they want a stud fee? I had no intension of breeding her and do not want to DNA test puppies. I have seen Benny before and he is a beauty at 5 pounds. Cozy is adorable to me but is overstandard and not the proper coloration.

I am not a breeder but there is no way I would give a stud fee. They might want a puppy though and I think that is fair if you find they are a suitable home. They may even offer to pay for a puppy. It just seems their dog was involved and they have the right to know

I just called Benny's mom. She is nuts!! She wants pick of the litter, $500, and compensation for my dog "ruining her male". She said he refuses to breed now and she could not figure out why. I made a less than appropriate remark.

I called from the public library which is where I access the net, so she can't track me down. I never gave the groomer my home address or home number only my cell. I don't answer calls on my cell that I don't recognize. I don't plan to use this groomer ever again.

I just hope Cozy is okay and has a good delivery.

The groomer is RESPONSIBLE..go after them!! JMO

I just wanted to say I hope everything turns out okay for you and your little girl. My girl is due on Feb. 15th so we may be up all night together!

Shes not entited to anything. I was just playing devils advocate when I told you what they may want but they are not entitled. This was not a planned breeding it was an accident and there is no contract so shes out of luck. The only person she could sue for damages is the groomer. Shes probably just in shock right now and is reacting. Your females life now could be at risk. She was damaged far more then her male

Also did she say how big Benny is? I would want to know that

It is not the groomer/owners of the shop's fault. It is the fault of the shop girls. They are teens and did not think. The groomer had her cage posted as do not remove except for grooming purposes which is why the groomer did not think it was possible for Cozy to get pregnant at her establishment. I don't want the girls to get fired for feeling bad for Cozy crying. If she needs a C-section or something goes wrong than I will go after than but at this point I don't want to.

My vet does not think Cozy will have any problems deliverying her puppies because she is overstandard and thus her pelvis is wider and the father is half her size. She has gained 1/2 pound in 1 month roughly which the vet says is normal.

Benny is 5 pounds to Cozy's 10.5 pounds. He had to climb a mountain to get the her.

You know we just had a discussion about honesty being the best policy..not in my book in these cases..so many people are totally unfair and unreasonable to deal with and cause endless problems...you do not owe the male owner anything..stand your ground..do not even converse with her again...who is at fault, all involved. You as the female owner for taking a bitch ready to be bred to a public place and leaving her, the male owner for not having the common sense to know males will breed without the owners permission and the groomer, call it a draw...Best wishes to you...

The owner of the grooming place is legally responsible. I know you say you are not going to do anything about it but it doesnt change the fact that they are and Bennys owner may want to go after them also and that is their right. I am glad the male is smaller than your girl that makes this situation less concerning. I hope your Cozy's whelping goes fine

That lady sounds stupid. She had no right to get all mad at you like that; it’s a weird situation and was not your fault.

I do my own grooming so can't speak from experience, but I'm wondering if it’s normal to allow intact males (or females) to be with other dogs in a larger area. Doesn't seem like good idea IMO especially since it doesn't sound like they are watched closely enough in this case.

That is kind of my feeling. It blame myself most for trusting that she would be safe. I was assured that she would be fine.:mad:

If she does suffer any harm I will have the groomer compensate me. I just hope and pray she doesn't.
