Zumbach Kennel Yorkies There is a new pet shop that just opened up in my town and I stopped to look around. I know I shouldn't have but I did. They had a puppy in there that was simply adorable. He really was a nice looking puppy. They wanted 1800 and he was APRI registered. I called and found out that the breeder is in Iowa and her name is Carla Zumbach. Has anyone ever heard of her or bought puppies from her before? |
did you google her?? |
Yeah , I did. I didn't really see much and it is always nice to hear from someone who might know first hand. |
I agree....I was just trying to get you a quick answer. You might want to put your question on the General discussion....someone might the kennel that doesn't read in the breeder section. |
Yeah that might help too. Thanks |
We have some of the top breeders in the country right here in Va. Why would you want a pet store pup? |
Oh I don't. We just stopped in to take a look around and play with the puppies. I was just curious as to where the pups came from. When he told me the breeders name I just thought I would look into it. We have a Petland not to far away that is well known for getting in puppymill puppies. So really I am just curious as to what kind of people are running the store. It took everything I had not to walk out with him. I knew I just couldn't do it. It was tempting tho. They were asking 1800 for him and I knew better. |
Zumbach puppies We purchased a Yorkie from the Zumbach's in May 2004. This is the sweetest yorkie! Carla was was honest and great to deal with. She perfectly described the puppy and his personality. We have been extremely pleased with the adoption of our puppy, Joey. |

not the same people sorry:eek: |
Okay, this is just my opinion, so take it how you want... If this breeder sells to pet stores (probably through a broker), she does not care where her puppies end up. Sounds like she also sells directly herself, but probably because she can get more money if she sells them herself. Most brokers only pay $250-300 for puppies. They transport them to the coasts and get a lot more than that. The pet stores then add more on to the price, so there are usually three parties making money off each "sell" I would not buy a puppy from a breeder that sells ANY dogs to pet stores or brokers. (They are suppose to be USDA licensed to do this, so if they have a USDA license beware!!) I saw into one of the transportation trucks once. The driver was stopped at Wal-Mart with the back door open. The truck was lined with cages on both sides. Small dogs were 3-4 in cages that were staked 3 -4 high. The larger dogs were only 1 or 2 in a cage, usually with a smaller cage on top of their large one. There was not as many large dogs. It looked and smelled clean, it was air conditioned (It was summer), but that is not how I want my babies to leave me. I don't even like to ship if I don't have to. I did talk to the driver and he said he was headed for New York. I live in NE Kansas, so these puppies had a long drive ahead of them. Breeders sell to brokers because they are guaranteed a price at 6-10 weeks old. The breeders don't have to give extra vaccinations or pay for more food because the puppies leave to live in a cage at these young ages. Many that have bought puppies from me, know that I still have them here even at 6+ months. They will not leave until they are ready and the right home comes along. I am never in a hurry to get a puppy out of here. People that sell puppies to brokers and pet stores obviously don't consider the puppies as part of their family!! |

I know it will happen again sometime, but I sure check more than references anymore. I have only had one reference that ever said anything negative. Most people are smart enough not to give a reference that will say bad things about them. I would just as soon have them here for me to love, than place them in homes that will not treat them correctly. (BTW, I do have a couple of puppies that are more than old enough to leave LOL!) |
breeder Jrsamson5...can you believe you joined YT the same day a member asks about this breeder...lucky you join! |
adobe list  Quote:
what does that mean? is this a list of puppy mills or what? usda breeders? just wondering why this long list ? gary and carla zumbach zumbach yorkies 21473 200th ave morticello, iowa 52310 |
No, this is a list of breeders that sell puppies to petshops. They can have as little as 4 or 5 dogs, but if they sell to a petshop then they need to have a license. They can have as many as 400 puppies and only sell to the public and in that case they DON"T need a license. They whole thing is screwed up in my opinion. |

i think brokers are supporting puppy mills when they sell to petstores |

Some of these pet stores you can tell the puppies hasn't had the best of care. It shows in there coats and the way they act. Its terrible even some are so sick the pet store has to get them well before they can sell them. |

carla zumbach In my seemingly perpetual search for my perfect puppy, I thought that this person might very well have her. That is, until further into my research on this person I found that she had sold to ANIMAL RESEARCH. |

after a bit of googling myself, i found this and of course even though it is an 11/10/09 figure, felt it was worth a mention... at date of the udsa inspection in 09 they had 140 adult dogs and 58 puppies... ( http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=42A1102 ) i think it is pretty safe to say this is most definately a puppyfarm? aint search engines great!?! and guess which site (and more specifically thread) comes up when a search is done! |
Why in the world would a reputable breeder ever place a puppy in a cage at a pet shop? Is someone there with the dog 24/7? The breeder is trafficking Yorkies. |
How do you find out if someone is selling their puppies for animal research? That is just horrific! |
