Stop a breeding How do I stop my female and male from mating until the next cycle? My female went into heat in October I just bought a great male but would like them to breed the next season not April Babies in June would be a disaster for us. (family getogether with the inlaws) How do you stop them from breeding short of fixing them? |
I have a neutered male. but I would thinking separating them? If not in your house, then maybe board one with a friend or relative? |
I just keep them seperated, which lasts 2 weeks or more. Takes alot of work but goes with the whole breeding aspect. |
You just have to keep them seperated, it's a pain, but like Breny says, goes along with breeding them. I will have 3 in heat this spring, and don't want any of them to get pregnant until possibly the following heat, so will be a hassle but I don't want any unplanned puppies either, we vacation in June!:D |
Complete seperation preferrably in other homes as accidents can happen! |
Keep them separated completely--not by a baby gate or by diapers, but completely, different rooms. Crate them and rotate them about if you have to. Deal with their resulting whining and protesting and don't turn your back on them for a second as that is all it takes. "Accidents" ARE preventable. |

Excellent advice...please take it. You are in for an annoying couple of weeks! Good luck! |
Boarding your male will be my best advice to you, other wise you can crate and he will try everything possible to get out besides crying , whining , and lots of mad non stop barking and expect some chewing to crates , scratching to walls , climbing ........yeah get ready for some annoying time , been there . |
I agree, sending the male on a short "vacation" is the only answer for me. There's just no sleeping for anyone if he's around. Also, if anyones in heat, he doesn't eat and just gets to be skin and bones..all the girls seem to go into season right after each other so it's weeks of the poor fella not eating, just not healthy! -Diana:animal-pa |

Unfortunatley its not an option to send mine away. I find it easier to keep the female in her bedroom and when she's out he's in another room. So yes, the poor males will stop eating. Its crazy! |
I wish it worked this way on my husband..he could stand to loose a few pounds..LOL -Diana |
