Need Help! ASAP! ok here goes, I took the 3 little girls in for docking 3 oz., 3 oz.,& 5 oz., the girls were all fine going there! i got back home and put the family back together. i keep a monitor on 24/7 when im away from their view. I heard crying so I rushed to find one girl hanging on for life. and mom holding her in her month. we worked very hard but she didn't make it. since then I have been hearing whining on and off and every time I run and look I find the mom with the baby in her mouth. she keeps picking her up and we caught her a couple of times hiding her under the towel. I never had this happen to me before and I cant think straight right now it seems like I have a brain fart! any suggestions! I cant think straight! she pick and is picking on the two 3 oz's haven't seen her go after the 5 oz. yet. |
I wish I had answers for you... I just wanted post to say congrats on your litter and that hopefully someone will post with some helpful advise soon :) |
forgot to mention yesterday I noticed the 2 little ones were not sucking as hard as they were before. so I stayed with them all night making sure they ate. I also noticed a tiny bit of milk come out of their noises. yesterday night. I'm sorry I'm writing as I'm trying to figure this out! my mind is not working right now and I'm so upset over this. I'll keep writing as I remember along. |
The babies are not in the same room as you? |
Keep a close eye on them. If mom succeeds in moving them away, they'll get cold and certainly pass. I would stick very closely, making mom lay with them keeping them warm and helping them to latch on. Did the vet check for cleft palates when he docked their tails? |

Is this a first time mommy? |
I really dont know anything about it but could the mom want to just move the babies because she can sence a monitor on under her? ( maybe electric frequency waves bother her?) dont know if that can even happen. |

we never had this happen before im so stressed!!!!!! over this right now i cant even think. hubby is sitting with her and pups right now while i keep checking the board. i was thinking maybe taking her out to the vets did anything to her. or the pups got weak after getting docked! i dont know im trying to figure it out. sorry for rambling along. |
no, it wouldn't be the monitor. It may be the stress of losing the one. I know it's nerve racking for you. Hopefully she'll settle down. Just be sure to keep them warm and nursing. If mom keeps it up especially if you have to leave (or sleep lol)... I would put puppies in a warming box until their next nursing to protect them. |
I had a mom that was picking up her pup and trying to bury it...She may think someone is going to take it from her...When they pick them up they get them wet and they get too cold...Try confining mom to a smaller pen and cover it with a blanket so she has some privacy, keeping her in a room without any other dogs or people traffic...You may have to sit there and hold her down while the pups nurse...You may have to put them down in your shirt for a while and warm them slowly up so they can eat...Puppies can not digest and a mom will not lay with a cold puppy... Be firm with her and when she tries to pick them up tell her no firmly and reassure her that it is alright...Hope this helps! ~Laura |
I too had to remove mom and keep the babies warm...I gave them to mom to nurse and would sit with her while they did...When they were done I put them back in the warming box...This also was a first time mom and she settled down in a week and won the mother of the year award from then on!...Be patient with her! ~Laura |

a mother can sense there is something wrong with the puppy and try to remove it from the rest of the litter. like everyone else is stating, keep the babies near you and watch them closely |
2 Attachment(s) update: the remaining little 3 oz girl is hanging on so far. hubby has been feeding through out the night. her suction is still very weak. we are holding mom down so she can get some of moms milk in her. she will suck a little on mom then poop out on us, her suction is very week. she still gets a little milk coming out of her noise. we are keeping her in her own heated nursery with a tiny stuff animal that she cuddles with and have the receiver monitor in with her so she can hear the sounds of her sister and mother. (she responds to the sounds of her sister).;) I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. the only thing I could thing of is the docking could of put to much stress on them being so tiny. should I have waited a day or 2 more? I had asked the vet but she assured me it would be fine. (she's 4 days old today) I should of went with my gut feeling.:( |
