When I used to go to the vet to have tails and dews done, the pups were 5 days old. That way I knew if they were healthy and big enough to have it done. I do my own as it is less stressful on the pus, the mom and me. Plus, she is not exposed to every bad bug that might be encountered at the vet office. It is very easy to do your own tails and dews and worth knowing how to do it. I never get infected tails now as I did when I went to the vet. |
1 Attachment(s) I took my Bitsy's pups earlier this week to have the tails docked and dew claws removed... her little girl was only 2.2 ounces at the time... I left it up to my vet as whether or not to do the docking/dew claws. He did it and just made sure she wasn't bleeding (actually she didn't bleed much and she had dew claws on all four of her paws). She is one week old today and 2.5 ounces! She is doing fine. I think the procedure stressed out all your pups... or the mom.... If I were you, I would have gone back to the vet with the pups(s) on day one... Best of luck.. and keep us posted. |
Weak suction and milk coming out the nose is a sign of clef palate. It could be just the tiniest V in the roof of her mouth waaaaaayyyyyyy in the back that is difficult to see. If so, you will get these symptoms. Did your vet look in their upper mouths? And way in the back of the top? Good luck Sweetie with the babies. I hope they are all fine and grow to be little toe nibblers! |
I'm sure you probably do, but I also have a light recieving blanket over the ones in the warming box. If the suction continues to weaken, you may consider asking your vet about teaching you to tube feed (and to rexam the palates) |
This receipe was posted a while ago and thought it may help you Recipe for fading or weak puppy...from what Ive been told it is a true life saver!! Thought this worth passing on...print and kept for safe keeping! Beef Liver Remedy For Fading Puppies Large piece of Beef Liver - boil slowly in a small amount of water (5 minutes or until the blood comes out). Let cool-drain the liquid ONLY; 4 drops into a dropper and feed the weak puppy. First dosage every 2 hours for 12 hours, then every 4 hours. Continue for however long needed until the puppy is thriving on its own. Don't feed or use the liver itself, it is far too rich; use only the liquid hope this helps |
