? re: taking a puppy back When someone calls u to take a puppy back, they feel that they cant give it the attention it needs due to increased hours of working, do you refund any all of or half of the money and any other concerns i should have, this is the first time ive had anyone call me to take one back??? any suggestions u all have will help me thanks |
how long has she had the puppy? |
the puppy is almost 7months old he will be on the 15th and she got him when he was 8 weeks old |
I am not a breeder so I really do not know how it works but I can tell you that I dont think she should get her money back from you. every contract i have read states that the buyer is to/can return the dog but will receive no money back. ofcourse it is a choice that only you can make, if she had him for 1 0r 2 weeks then i probably would refund her money but 5 months...i dont think i would. then again who knows lol |

I'm not a breeder but if I was I would't refund her money. She bought the puppy from you 5 months ago and just now decides she doesn't have the time for it? I wouldn't refund her money, but maybe find a new home for it and giver her 1/2 of that money? |
I wouldn't refund all of the money, at least not at first. You need to determine the condition of the dog once it is returned. You'll need to have it vet checked again, consider what you will be out for time and costs in doing all this and rehoming, etc etc. Alot would just depend on the specifics of the situation really. Was any kind of agreement for this type situation discussed between the two of you when she bought the pup? Just up to what you feel is fair. |
When my puppies are sold i tell them that if they are unable to keep it for an reason they are to let me know before they rehome it and that i will take it back that way i know it is rehomed in a proper place but i never tell them i will refund money, i was wondering what everyone else doessince i have never had this happen i was so unhappy about it i was tjhinking as you all why after this amt of time, plus i have 5 day old puppies so im worried about that too |
puppy I have had situations where the puppy did not work out or the life of the owner change and the puppy needed rehoming. This is what worked for me...I would meet the buyer at my vets (no one refused) and we made sure it was UTD on vaccines, healthy, parasite free etc..and then I took it home and resold it, giving the owner what ever I got less any expenses...I only charged for any vet fees if needed, not food or grooming. OR I would call someone waiting to buy one of my puppies and they worked it out..money, vet etc..I was not involved. OR, if it was over 6 months, I just took it back and found it a home..no money returned. Sometimes I kept the puppy as a pet or gave it to family and friends. |

I'm not a breeder, but I would not give the money back after all this time. If it were only a week or two then I'd consider giving her back her money. |
I had one puppy buyer decide a puppy wasn't right for them but they had him over night and returned to me the next day and I gave money back. I wouldn't give money back after that long but I would take the puppy back for sure it's in my contract and place the puppy into another home. I don't think I would sell the puppy for what I orginally got but maybe for an adoption fee like the vet expenses I incurred for rechecks. But probably just place into a nice home for nothing. Not a breeder here, either; but, as far I wouldn't return her $$$. And, now is a good time for you to draw up your own contract, and include such provisions as you forsee to save yourself future dilemmas. |
