Just because she's on the smaller side and you bred her with a smaller male does not mean that she's going to have small pups. Do you know what is behind both dogs in their lineage? Since all yorkies were bred down from larger dogs means that they can have throw backs but it seems as though you're on the right track!

Hold off another week and I'm sure you'll be able to tell by then.

I remember reading in a book that the average yorkie litter is 2-4 pups. On average, Gracie will whelp 3 pups and London has only had one litter of 2.

:aimeeyork Do you know how big of a litter Gracie came from and London? Lily came from a litter of 5 pups.

Lily is 29 days today(if she is pregnant). How far along was Gracie when you or the vet was able to determine that she was pregnant?

We have 2 females. One had SIX babies the first time, and smaller litters between the one she had YESTERDAY, which was ALSO SIX! This mother is smaller framed. The other pet mother we have is a sister of this one. She has had anywhere from 2-4. I can't say as they get older they have more, or the fewer litters they have had means they will have more. I think it is the luck of the draw, as in how many girls versus boys and so on. I do believe that the babies are getting smaller each litter though:rolleyes: ......good question!.....justus

ValDay Is because she was born on Valentine day. She is so petite, and had them six babies in there. Her tummy was hard like a mellon. The last couple days she was pretty miserable. She really started showing well at about 40 days or so......justus

After reading a lot of the posts I decided to call my vet to see if day 31 was too early to bring my Lily in to see if she was pregnant. He said wait until day 42. So by then I may even be able to tell if she is pregnant. She isn't showing yet. Today is day 31. This waiting is just killing me! I can only imagine how I am going to feel when my kids are expecting children of their own!!(Quite a few more years before that!):aimeeyork :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa

Personally, at 31 days it would have been hard to tell on our girls just by looking. With an Ultra sound I am just sure it would show though. Just my opinion. At the 40 something days, I believe you would , being very careful be able to feel little bumps in the tummy. Calm down. I do understand your feelings though.....justus

I have a question that kind of goes along with this thread so I thought I would chime in. If a yorkie only has one puppy do they get very large during the pregnancy?

That is a very good question...
I don't know what factors in on a large pup. I do know that my vet stresses good nutrition but not over feeding the mom during gestation.
My Maggie had 2 litters that produced an 8 oz+ pup that grew into a "teapot". One of those litters was my Rocky 4oz at birth and his sister Jilly 8 oz who is 11lbs maturity. In both litters she only had 2 puppies, one on each side.
Sunnie's momma had a litter of 7 that had 6 pups between 3 & 5 oz and 1 that was 8oz that one matured at 12lbs.
Sunnie is due Sunday with her 3rd litter of 2. She has one on each side this time also and they look like they will be around 4 oz.

on average, yes. it is called a singleton puppy which usually has to be c-sectioned due to the size.

Bitches are multiple ovulators, which means that they make several eggs, and release them over a period of several hours, or even a day or so.
It is the bitch who determines the number of puppies to be born.
The male determines the sex of the puppy.
