Skin Problem

Hello to all. I am a new member and am desperate for help.
I have a 13 year old Yorkie named Maxie. Maxie has only been with me since June of 2007. His first owner was my Aunt and she passed away. At that time I took Maxie and his male Pomeranian companion, Mickey on her passing. In this year and a half since I got these two loveable dogs, Mickey has passed away and I brought a new puppie into my home this past July. I don't know if Maxie is suffering from anxiety or what but he is losing his hair (mostly from his back) in a very uniform manner. His entire back is bald. He has little pimples on his back that do not itch him or seem to bother him but I can't help but think that the pimples caused him this hair loss. I took him to his vet and she prescribed Amoxil (antibiotic) thinking that it was a skin illness. The antibiotic is all and Max is still losing his hair. Can anyone help me?? I just don't know what to do to help this little fella from losing more hair. He is elderly but overall in good health. It is just this darn hair loss. I don't know if it is from stress of losing his first owner and than his pal Mickey or if is from some other cause.
Please help me! I am at my wits end!

![]() | It sounds like a stress and anxiety issues to me. The face of losing her first owner who im sure she was very close to changing environments losings her companion and then adding a new one. I def think all us this plays a role. My suggestion is possitive encouragement. Maybe a new toy or bed something that is hers and she will not lose. Lose can bring stress on anyone but its probally worse on animals because thier so dependant on thier owners. |

![]() | Hi, Welcome to YT! We are glad to have you here. I am wondering what Maxie is eating. It could be an allergy to something. I would go to a second vet - get another opinion or at the very least have a skin scrapping done, if the vet didn't do one. You may want to see a holistic vet. To get to know everyone best and get lots of responses, you probably should start a thread in the Health & Diet forum at www.yorkietalk.com. Right now you are in the blogs and they are not very well read. |

![]() | A way to get hair back!Hi, I am so sorry for your loss but I was reading a magazine on dogs and came across a skin care and fur kit (if you need helping growing the hair back). It helps with itching, scratching, biting (own fur), and chewing (own fur). It also works with blackening fur/skin, odor, ear infections, and overall/in general hair loss. I do not know the price (I have never used it) but this is called N'zymes or go to the website N'zymes.com Hope I helped...once again sorry ![]() |
