Spay?

I have a 5 lb yorkie female. She is about 1 1/2 years old. I don't want her to have puppies, but I am scared, scared, scared to have her spayed.
Do I have anything to be scared about? or am I just being overprotective? ( I just read a blog about a yorkie dying after getting spayed too!)
Also, I've heard that yorkies can gain weight after being spayed. Is this true? If she does, that's totally fine, I was just wondering.
Thanks to anyone that has info!!!!!!!

![]() | SpayingZoe just came home from being spayed. She's lying here sleeping, she ate like she never has before. She seems fine. I was told to keep her quiet and don't let her jump (yea right) for about 10-14 days at which time she can have her 1 stitch out-she only wghs 4 lbs, she's a yr old. I would recommend having your dog have a presurgery bloodtest, to check for liver function..(typically dogs aren't tested for LFT'S until they are older, young dogs don't usually have liver function issues.) Some vets offer this and some don't. But it is important, because if there is an issue with the liver it can effect how the anesthesia is processed, which can be fatal. The reason I know this is, Zoe's littermate was in for his neutering and his bloodwork showed liver disease,so surgery was cancelled and they recommended we check Zoe,which we did and she's fine, thank god. Hope this is helpful. ![]() |
