Help need advice...

So I have a 6 month 3lb yorkie, and about 2 months ago on the last day she recieved all of her puppy shots, that night she slipped from my dad's arm and broke her front right paw. I spent 4 hours at the hospital $550 to get her out, and they told my she broke her radius and ulna and needed surgery asap. So the next day i was able to get her into surgery, she stayed over night and I picked her up the next day. Everything went good, they said they put a pin, and she had to wear a cast for 2 months then get surgery to take it out, and thats it. Oh so what I thought....I've taken her to the doc. every week for a check-up, except last week i did not take her b/c i had to attend a funeral in cali. So I took her yesterday and they said we were going to x-ray her and see how she is doing so we can take the pin out. I was waiting for awhile, then they asked me to go to the back to look at the x-rays. To horrifying news they informed me on that the pin that was in her arm broke in half, and the half that is in her arm is stuck to her bone and can not be removed. They needed to do emergency surgery right away and take the other part out. They have no clue on how a 3lb dog can brake a tuff metal pin. They assumed that the cast was not on tight, and when she jumped or climbed up the stairs it gave it a bend and snapped it. But they said that it must have happened in a week, but i don't think a dog can have that quick of a groeth for her muscles to accept it in one week. So now she is bowed leg and they said to pray to mother nature that it will be straight in one month, with her keeping the cast on. I'm just so upset b/c she has been in a cast for most of her puppy months and never gets to play or go for walks. Now i need advice on what should i do to the vet, b/c something was fishy, should i get a second look from another vet? help please

I'd say if your unsure get a second opinion. Please be careful with a cast over a wound. Many years ago my own 3lb girl Hope broke her leg just aove the joint. The vet pinned and casted it, the next day her foot was swollen and they said it was just the small capillary vessels filling with fluid and they extended the cast to her foot to forse it back up. Weeks later she began chewing at her leg trying to rip the cast off, they thought she was getting fed up with the cast, turned out to be gangrene and she had to loose her leg to save her life. If anything like that happened again I'd be asking alot more questions. | |
