Hello,
I just brought my yorkie home on friday. She's 6 1/2 weeks old. She's adorable, but come to find out, she's got ticks and fleas; absolutley covered! It's sad. My husband and I have been picking them off with tweezers. She's only had her 1st shot, and the people we bought her from told us that we couldnt put a flea and tick collar on her because it counteracts with the shot. They told us we had to wait until she's had all 3 shots until we could put one on. I'm not sure exactly how to go about this problem now. Does anyone know what's safe to put on a puppy this young or if what they told me is even true? I need to do something for her and there are way too many ticks to pick off just with tweezers. Please help!!

![]() | I believe the seller should assume the responsibility of cleaning up the puppy before you took the puppy home. Is it possible that you bring the puppy back to the seller and ask him/her to take care of this issue before you take the puppy home again. |

![]() | Wash your puppy with dawn dish liquid, I know it kills fleas, but i'm not sure about ticks, but it never hurts to try. Desyrae |

![]() | Wow, fleas run away!Last year I bought a tiny Maltese. She was so low that when she went potty her whole back end was on the ground. I have wild cats in my neighborhood and since my dog died 3 years ago I guess they took over the yard. Last summer, every single time I took her out to go potty, she would come in with 20 fleas on her. Seriously! I was totally skeezed out! My poor baby. And, I was terrified of getting them in the house. So, I was literally bathing her 3 times a day to control the fleas. I didn't understand what was wrong. My Yum Yum was very long and fluffy and never had a flea. I was at my wits end. Then, I went on the internet and read that Dawn Dish Detergent (only blue) kills fleas. I thought, yea right. Another myth. I put a few drops of Dawn in the sink with a little salt (not necessary, but read that works). When I poured the water onto my dog. the fleas were actually flying up to the surface of her hair. It was amazing, like they were running away. In a few minutes she was free of fleas, but I left her in the water for 10 minutes in case any were hiding in her ears. I read Dawn blue has something in it that fleas hate. When you start washing the dog, start by pouring water on her head and face first, avoiding the eyes of course. This will avoid critters retreating to these portals. Pollyanna has long white hair this year, and no fleas, thanks to an unlikely but very effective remedy. When you find something that really works, pass it on. w |
