Need Help with New Yorkie
Posted 04-15-2009 at 11:13 AM by Anna Frances
I recently was given a female yorkie for my birthday. She is very small and her hair is sparse with a few whips around her face. Her coloring is beautiful but she almost looks like a tiny deer. She is 5 months old and weights 1.5 lbs. Is there anything I can do to make her hair grow and is this normal? She is wonderful and full of energy.

![]() | I breed yorkies and have had a few of my smaller ones that tend to get their hair in much more slowly than others. I am also a groomer and I know that Yorkies do not get their full adult coat until they are about 3 years old. From birth until then it can change color and texture. I recommend to all my customers that they give their dog at least a teaspoon of quality wet food a day. It helps with the oils in the hair and makes for less drying of the skin. One of the nicest coated yorkies I have did not have very great hair for the first year and a half. I also have found that the silkier they are the thinner ther hair to begin wih. |

![]() | Need Help with New YorkieThank you so much for your response. It helps knowing that there is hope. I feed her wet food with her dry every monrning and I'm also giving her "Kelp Help" for dogs. I can't wait to put a bow in her hair, she is so sweet and appears to be very healthy. |
