Help...my puppy is sick and may have a liver shunt!!

We got Beckham 3 mos ago. He is 6 mos now. My husband and I were reluctant to get a dog for many years because we had to put down our last dog due to complications related to an autoimmune disease. I don't think that I really grieved for him.
When we got Beckham, I really thought that my family was complete!! My 2 little girls absolutely adore him-we all do. He is a peppy, adorable yorkie!!
This past Saturday, he threw up several times. On Sunday he was very lethargic and just layer around. On Monday, he had diarrhea. We finally took him to the vet on Tuesday and he immediately suspected a liver shunt. We did a CBC, CMP, & a bile acids challenge. The lab results showed that he most likely has a liver shunt. He will hardly eat anything and I am devastated with the news. I was told that the diagnostic imaging would cost $400.00 & if operable, the surgery would cost $3000.00-5000.00. We cannot afford this and I am so depressed with the thought of losing him. I heard about Dr. Karen Tobias at the University of Tennessee. Has anyone else gone through this tragic situation and come through with a healthy dog and without a breaking the bank? I am so consumed about finding if there is any solution!!! Thanks.

SorryI am so sorry to hear that your little guy is sick. It is always hard when one of our furbabies gets sick. I'm sorry I can't be of much help as I have not been through that particular situation. I will keep you, your family and Beckham in my prayers. | |
