My husband and I have decided to get a Yorkie
. This will be our first puppy and we are really excited. My biggest concern is that we both work full time. Will this negatively affect our puppy? I looked into some dog day care but I am unsure if that is necessary. Can anyone give me some insight? I really want a puppy but is it ok to leave him or her unattended?

No, have no fear. My female did fine. I have been unemployed since January and have had the luxury of watching my toddler, Jesse, grow by leaps and bounds. He was 6 months when I got him. Can you come home for lunch? I would buy a puppy gate for the kitchen area if possible, leave water and dry puppy kibble down for the new baby, a wee wee pad and a soft blanket or doggie pillow that the baby can sleep on. I would also leave a radio on so that the pup thinks there are people around. Encourage the pad training. It comes in handy in the case of bad weather. If not already pad trained, sop up a wee wee spot with the pad so that its scent is on it and place it in the area that the dog will be in during the day. If you can pop in for lunch, great. If not, that's OK, too. You will just have to work on reinforcing the good behavior when you come home at night. Good luck to you....Lisa, Lilly & Jesse | |
