I have an eleven week old male, Rugby. I got him when he was 8 weeks old, & was 1.1 lbs. He has grown since then & definitely changed his views on his harness & sweaters!! He used to love his sweater! Now he freaks out & screams bloody murder when I try to put it on. He doesn't mind wearing his harness, but the trouble is putting it on. The strap under his belly is easy to put on but when I try to put the one around his neck he spazzes
. It takes about 10 minutes to get it on. After it's on, he has to take a nap because he tired himself out. I know he will take time to get used to it & that is the stage I'm working with. Are there any tricks that could make the process a bit easier on him & me?

![]() | Start em early! and dont give up. I made a tiny harness for my pup that he could just wear around the house (before he even went outside for walkies) besides once he/she learns that walkies means harness, your little one will be jumping into it. now booties are a nother story! -grrreat for laughs though! |

![]() | Maybe it's the anticipation of the clicking sound that the snap makes that makes him spaz. Like he doesn't expect it the first time, but knows it's going to happen the second time around and spazzes. I would maybe put it around his belly and reward him for good behavior with a treat and praise then let him get used to it being around his belly. After a little bit then put it around his neck. If he's good, reward him. If not, let him spaz and ignore him. Don't try to comfort him or force him. Just let him do his thing and don't even acknowledge his presence until he is calm, then try it again. Just repeat trying to do the neck part until he can do it without freaking out, then reward him. I would then just let him stay around the house with it on for awhile so he could get used to it. Do this a few times throughout the day and everyday until he can do it without freaking out. |

![]() | ohalso some harnesses have a single buckle instead of a snap, perhaps that might work. one thing for sure is never let your pooch win the battle! ![]() |

![]() | Try keeping it on for a longer period. My harness has only the belly clip and adjustment things on the neck, which I keep lose untill I slip it over his head, I actually keep it snapped and just tighten the adjusters. |
