Newbie and First grooming!!
Posted 10-14-2008 at 03:17 PM by MY BELLA MIA
Hi all! I actually joined about a month ago but this is my first post. I brought my baby home at the beginning of February. She is 9 1/2 months old. Today she had her first grooming. Unfortunately, she had a lot of mats. It's not because I didn't try to brush her . But she is not crazy about it. Anyway to make a long story short, after a couple of conversations over the day with the groomer, she suggested we just shave her. She tried throughout the day to get the mats out but my poor Bella had had enough.
I really like this woman. First of all they don't crate the dogs, and if there's alot of work to be done, as in Bella's case, they do it in 15 minute segments, so as not to overstress the dog. In between they let them run around and play with the other dogs. She really looks good! It's not down to the skin and she feels so smooth and silky!! I swear, I am not going to let her get like that again. Poor Baby! I'm going to comb/brush her every day whether she likes it or not. When I load pictures up, I'll post them.
I hope this isn't too long.:animal

![]() | Hi, Sorry you had to have your baby shaved. Yep, you really have to brush them just about everyday! I have had 3 Yorkies over the past 30 years. I did brush them everyday or at least every other day just to make sure they didn't mat up. None of my babies really like or liked it but that's just the way it is. I have to do things I don't really like either but........ Good luck with her, (brush her everyday even though her coat is short now), and she will have a beautiful long coat again soon. Oh by the way Yorkies need to be groomed on a regular basis. I usually get mine groomed about every 6 weeks. I'm sorry if I'm telling you something you already know and maybe you have had Yorkies before. Take care. |

![]() | shavedI had a fleece coat on Zoey for most of the winter because it was so cold. She would lay on her back and do what we called a "Snoopy" dance. I didn't realize how this fleece coat was causing so many knots. We did have to get her body shaved, and it is growing out beautifully. The summer time is a good time for that kind of cut. Don't worry...it will grow back. ![]() |
