Puppy won't stop pestering cat - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Our 13 week old puppy will not leave our cat alone. He is jumping on the cat's head, biting the cat's tail and paws. Our cat is quite laid back so he takes it for a little while then he bites the puppy. He doesn't seem to be hurting the puppy when he bites as it doesn't bother the puppy. The puppy just keeps going back for more. I have a separate room for the cat but I can't keep putting him in the room. I have tried distracting the puppy with loud noise but he just keeps going back after the cat. Of course the cat isn't helping by staying on the floor all the time. I am just scared the cat will take a good bite out of the puppy. Any suggestions?

Ha! Ha! Ha! Welcome to my household! Olivia is all over our cat all the time. If he's sitting on the floor, she runs over and tackles him to the ground, if he's not paying attention to her, she goes next to him and digs on his back to get a reaction, if he has a toy, she takes it from him... Your cat shouldn't hurt the puppy with his biting. I figure for as hard as Olivia plays and bites, she deserves what she gets. At one point, our cat had hair missing on his ears from Olivia biting on them! I figure that he probably likes having someone to wrestle with because for as awful as she is to him, he doesn't avoid her (he actually seeks her out), cries to wake her up in the mornings to play, and has never hurt her- even though his claws could really hurt her if he wanted to. I wouldn't worry about it until you see aggressive behavior from either of them. If your cat is swatting at the puppy with its claws or showing aggression (puffy tail, hair up on his back, etc), you might want to step in. Also, since the puppy is new, the cat needs time to get used to him and adjust to a new animal in the house. In my case, Olivia is majorly jealous of the cat, so I actually have to watch her more than I do him.

I have Mini whos gonna be 4months old on the 3rd ..and we have 2 cats she loves to chase and torment one cat stays away the other lets her know when enough is enough ..but does play with her its so cute ..I give my cats a safe off limits area so they can retreat , I hope they will become one happy family like mine seem to have .although the cat ouija ..still wants the puppy to go i think ...here are a few picture of them at play ..

Deb, that second picture is too cute! And I agree- a safe place for the cat (over a gate, etc) is a definite must! Our cat goes flying over the gate when Olivia gets to be "too much!"

I should add, too, that when Olivia got to our house, she introduced herself to our cat by tackling him to the ground, so it's been non-stop since the second (literally) she got home! Your cat is probably in for a rude awakening (forget those peaceful cat naps!), but will adjust!

Starsky does this to my beagle who is like 3 times his size. If you know the answer to stop this, then let me know. This has been going on for 1 year. I keep thinking my beagle will give him you know what some time.

I see I am not the only one with this problem. Deb I love your pics. I have a room with a baby gate but the cat is being stubborn and won't get off the floor. The cat stole the puppy's chew toy this morning and lay there with it between his paws. This made our yorkie bark for the first time. I am beginning to wonder who is pestering who. I have another dog but puppy isn't interested in the dog only the cat. I guess I will just have to supervise.

How sweet, they just want to play. As long as their not aggressive, i'd let them play. I'm sure they will end up being best friends
