Donating YT 7000 Club Member | People shave the ears to make them lighter so they will stand. Then they keep them shaved for a while to make sure they don't flop again. not a stupid question at all!

| So when you shave the ears,do you shave the whole ear or only the top third of the ear,and what about the long hair that comes out on the side of the ear,it seems a shame to shave off that pretty look, what is the standard on ears |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I think the only standards on ears are that they have to be erect, and they can't be too huge. I think you only shave down 1/4 inch of the ear if I'm not mistaking. Then once the cartilage builds up you can let the hair grow out again.

| this is for gazio,my hairy people also have the long hair like on your picture, and the groomer shaved off the top third of the ear,but before that even the top of the ear flowed down, now it looks like your picture,we dont show, and I like the look of the full ear, does it matter if I let it grow back out |

| I personally don't like the ears covered with hair. They look so much larger and some dogs can resemble Papillons. For very young dogs I shave at least half and sometimes, the whole ear. Otherwise, I clipper the first 1/3 from the tip of the ear. |
