| ![]() I Am getting my little pup on Tuesday. I have some time off work to spend with her but I'm trying to think ahead about what I am going to do when I return to work. I am going to potty train her on the per pads. Has anyone keep their dogs in a play pen? Is that big enough? My choices are the playpen or the master bathroom. Not sure I'm thrilled about that option. Any suggestions? |

| ![]() I didn't train my girls to use the pad, but I did buy the Iris to use indoor when I adopted Tia. She came with everything (worms, ringworm, etc.) and I had to separate her from her sister. It is easy to take apart and travel with too. (Be careful with the puppy pads. Tia had to be taken to the ER because she kept eating them and choked.) Purchase the IRIS 4 Panel Pet Pen at Walmart.com. Save money. Live better. I purchased a used Superyard XT from Craigslist to train them to potty outside. I put them in that until they went and then took them out. They learned the word fast and I didn't have to chase them around the back yard. Good luck. |

| ![]() I bought a used baby playpen when we got Abby- she chewed thru the bottom in two days! I ordered the Isis 36"high 8 panel (we use 6 of the panels) x-pen on amazon. It was a good investment- we still use it a year later. It is sturdy, easy to move and keep clean. |

| ![]() We did use a play pen with all 4 of mine when they were tiny... It helped train them to use their potty pads.... We then graduated to a bigger x pen which we gradually made larger and larger... They now have free run and are completely potty pad trained! Good luck with your new baby!!

Do you find that the yorkies cannot tell the difference between the washable pads and the carpet?

| ![]() I use washable pads also (T Bumpkins), I have had no problem with confusion with carpet. I always but the pad down the same place so Sophie Kate knows where it is. Sorry no luck with a play pen. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Are your yorkies trained to only use pads or do they go outside as well?

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | ![]() Try an XPEN. Easy to collapse and you can make it any shape to fit where you want to to go. During Hurricaine Ike, when we evacuated Houston, we took the XPEN and put the kids in it so they wouldn't ruin the carpet in the motel. As it was, it was a wasted effort because the power went off and the water came in and the whole carpet was soaked...ROFL ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I say an XPEN because it can be used again and again, like when someone tied two little dogs to our porch railing and I brought them inside because it was cold. We were able to keep them seperate from my guys. Louise |

| ![]() I do not have carpet. Luckily, my house is all hardwood floor and ceramic tile. I do however use different laundry soaps to wash the pads and my rugs so that they will not smell the same.

| ![]() Thanks for all the tips! I ended up getting the 8 panel IRIS pen on Amazon. It was a little more a playpen would be, I think $80, but the sides were about 6 inches higher and it is much more roomy! Hopefully, it will work out great ![]() |

| ![]() We used a metal playpen while our little guy was a baby when I went back to work. It went well.... except sometimes I would come home to a ripped up pee pad ![]() I saw some wrote about washable pee pads..... I had never heard of this before. Any issues with smell? How long do you leave them down for before washing? |
