Default Royal Canin

Anyone have any feedback on the Royal Canin brand dry food that is specially formulated for Yorkie puppies? I was amazed that they had breed specific formulations. Oliver has never liked wet food, and we have had good experiences with the dry food so far.

Never used the puppy formula but I've used the adult at the recommendation of a board certified vet nutritionist and my dog did great.

I think it's just ok. I think it is very expensive for what you get. There are many other brands that are just as good for better for less money.

I used Royal Canin for my puppies. I did not use the Yorkie specific formula as it is not for puppies. I used the Baby dog formula and the next one up... cannot remember the name right off the top of my head now. It worked great for me. I used the Small dog formula too for a while but I eventually caved to peer pressure and got a higher premium food for my adult yorkies. I think it is a fine food but some do not like it. Some formulas have corn (not all). I think if your dog likes it and does well on it, use it if you want! It is a quality food just maybe not the top premium brand out there, but plenty good enough to have a healthy dog with good skin and hair. It does cost quite a lot for what it offers in the way of ingredients. But if you are fine with that, no problem.

ZoE's been on RC since she was a puppy. She started on the Mini Baby Dog, then YT puppy 29, now she's on YT adult 28. She's done awesome on it. Great appetite, absolutely no health issues.

Just started my yorkie on RC. She is 7 and a rescue from a puppymill. I have had her for 6 months. She has lots of barking issues and some stomach problems. The RC seems to be working although she has only been on it for about a month. I am
new to the forum.
Hope this helps.

I would avoid the Royal Canin especially the mini puppy, the fat and protein content is too high for our little ones. Natural Balance Small breed bites is much better!

Teddy was eating Eukanuba small breed puppy (it was what the breeder fed him) he had always had soft stool. We thought he might have parasites or a bacteria infection so we took him to the vet and he was fine.

Eventually he wound up having diarrhea and after an emergency vet visit we moved him to a bland diet. His poop firmed up and so, thinking it was a tummy bug, we moved him back to his food. Then we got the diarrhea problems again. So as per my vets direction we switched him to Royal Canin yorkshire 29 (the puppy one). He's been on it for a little over a week and his poop is actually becoming NORMAL. After a month of soft stools seeing a normal looking poop was shocking! This morning his poop was actually firm!

We did have to do a quick switch so we expected runny poop for a while but as of this morning he has good firm healthy BMs

He loves the food, and im seeing results within a week so I personally think it's worth the price. It may just be a big huge coincidence but I'm very satisfied with this food. We also found the food a petfooddirect.com and they offer 15% discount for autoship.

Just switched Sunny to RC. She was eating Purina Pro Plan. We put her on that when we got her, then did alot more research and over time found out a thing or two about that brand and as the bag dwindled, Sunny ate less and less. Since I have switched her to RC she has gobbled it up. Yes, it a bit pricey, but a bag last forever for her so...I took the leap..nothing but the best, and I THINK, it is the best, for my baby.

They only had the all-breed puppy formula when Joey was a puppy, but I've heard the now have the Yorkie puppy formula. I use the adult Yorkie formula and I like having a dog food that is breed specific. Joey's been on it at least 5 years and is doing very well. He never gets tummy upsets vomiting, diarrhea or gas, no tearing, and his teeth and breath are great. It may cost more than some brands, but I think it’s worth it.

My Teddy has been on RC since he was 2 months old. We don't really have the specific one for Yorkies (very rare and very expensive), but so far it's been good. Teddy is a picky eater, so we have to feed him. But he seems to like RC better than the rest.

My baby Moses is now 1 year! Wow, how time flies! Moses has been on so many foods that I was pretty much at my wits end! Nutro, TOTW, Evo, etc and he is so picky! My vet recommended RC and I have stayed with it. It's the only food he likes and has done well on. I do give him some wet food combined with dry food in the evenings. Some days he doesn't eat breakfast, but will eat dinner...some days he surprises me by eating breakfast and dinner. But the bottom line is he is doing so well on this food, I won't ever change him! We are feeding him the Yorkie 28, even though he is half poodle. The poodle formula has higher protein, so we stick with the Yorkie formula.

Is the RC Yorky Terrier formula hard? Like our Lola crunches it up just making sure.

Yes it is and because it's a small size, Joey can chew it instead of swallowing it whole. The chewing is good for their teeth and gums and RC's formula for Yorkies is said to have something that reduces the formation of tartar, so chewing would be helpful for this too.
