| So at about 1:45 I went to take my dog out because it looked like it was going to rain and I had started to hear the thunder so I wanted to let him go to the bathroom before the storm. Well its been raining on an off since then (its now 10:30 at night) and I heard thunder then but didn't see any lightning. Well I started hearing thunder again so I went to check the weather online. Well according to the weather channel we were only supposed to get rain. I was pretty happy. I am sitting with my mom and we were listening for the thunder and I told her I just checked and we won't get any real storms. The weather channel was wrong. All of a sudden we were sitting here watching TV and probably the loudest and longest thunder I've ever heard happened. During it there was a spark near the cable box and Xbox. We checked it out and couldn't find anything. Then we checked on the animals (two kitties and the dog all of which hate thunderstorms) and shut off what ever we could. My heart is still pounding. It was so scary. I seriously though the house was hit by lightning for a couple of minutes. I think one of the poles on the street must have been hit. Our immediate area must attract lightning or something. The house behind us has been hit (we were in the basement and even that lit up when it hit), the berry tree in the backyard (10 minutes before it hit me and my cousins had been picking berries.. one of the huge branches came down), and finally the pole directly infront of the house. Me and my sister were looking straight at it when it happened. On saturday I am moving in to my dorm. Literally right in the path of the hurricane. We have to drive two hours to get there and then my mom has to drive back. We are trying to plan it so she doesn't drive in the rain. Then on sunday I have to deal with the storm and whatever it brings on monday which I have classes from 9AM-9PM. I really hate storms. I am hoping that Hurricane Irene will suddenly go out to sea
