HI IM BRUTUS MOM, i have had him for eight yrs and NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. ive been sick a couple of days and sad to say ,didnt pay any attention to what was happening to brutus. thursday i came home from work and he had a large wad of poop on his butt of which i had no idea because of his fur. i cleaned and blow dryed him up.. now today i come home today which is saturday,and again thick ball of poop. i cleaned and this time cut all hair from butt just to see that his anus is poking out alittle and very red ans swollen. my heart is sick! i think he ate something that may not have agreed with him .even ask my husband.ANY WAY.. WHAT DO I DO ABOUT HIS BUTT..IM SCARED!

PLEASE HELP NOT REALLY GETTING ANSWERS I NEED.

Sounds like an infected anal gland. Time to see his vet!

My Hobbes has done this before and I would wash him and cut his hair also. Usually because he ate too much. If it continues to happen I would take him too the vet. He may just be irritated where the poop dried on him.

It sounds like an irritation; but I always err on the side of caution and take mine to see the vet...
Or..at least call for advice.

i took him to e.r. ...he will be fine. maybe i was being alittle over protective but i was scared..brutus is just looking pitiful in that ecollar..lol!

What did they do for him? What did they say it was?

Just saw you took him in. Glad to hear he is ok. You have to worry about a possible anal abscess when you see something like that going on.

im so glad i found this site..didnt know you could get this response.. brutus was constipated and had skin fold dermatitis..they gave me meds for him and a ecollard so he wouldnt lick...THANKS SO MUCH FOR EVERYONES CONCERN.( BIG LICK FROM BRUTUS AND A BIG HUG FROM ME !
