Ava, 5 months, will sometimes vomit during the night. It's never an odd colour, and usually contains her bedtime snack .

It only happens maybe once every two weeks. I can't figure out why. Does this happen with anyone else?

Is she eating before bed? If she is then I don't know what could be going on. Maybe if this is in the sick/injured section it would get more replies?

Thanks for the response! Yes, she is eating a little snack before bed. It's puzzling. Maybe I'll bring it up with the vet.

What is the little snack that she's eating? Kimbo is 11 months old now. He will vomit a small amouny if he eats ANYTHING but his kibble or an occasional Cheerio. One tiny taste of apple, carrot or boiled chicken and it's bound to come up. We just stick to his Innova puppy kibble and there are never any problems.

So he's pretty sensitive then?

I feed her NOW! kibble mixed with Wellness wet. Before bed, she just gets a little teaspoon of Wellness... so I don't think it's that... but she could have occasionally just eaten a little something off the floor that bothers her. I'm not really sure!

You mentioned that the vomit usually contains her bedtime snack. Maybe you should change the snack or perhaps don't give bedtime snacks at all? Not sure how consistent her vomiting is but I'd try to do one thing at a time to eliminate the possibilities of things that's not causing it.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Maybe I won`t give her a bedtime snack.

I started doing that because she vomited once first thing in the morning, and it was just stomach acid-- so after researching, thought it was because she had gone too long without eating.

I was going to say to try to have her go without a bedtime snack, but I see that she vomited before you started giving the bedtime snack, right?

Is the bedtime snack the exact same thing she eats for her meals during the day? If I was going to give a bedtime snack I would give her a small amount of exactly what she eats (and keeps down) during the day. If she continues to vomit I would give my vet a call for a check up.

These little ones can be so tricky with their tummies!

Make sure your puppy is getting enough water with the snack. That can cause puking at night or in the morning.

Now that you mentioned it, she hadn't vomited in the middle of the night when she wasn't getting her bedtime snack... only once in the morning (bile only) so that's why I started. Hmmmm. I think I will try not giving a snack.

She vomited again this morning, bile only, and she had only gone 8 hrs without eating, which is normal for her to do overnight

The bedtime snack is the same thing she eats during the day, yes.

I will try the extra after thing too.

This is pretty nerveracking because you're always kinda waiting to hear that sound at night!

I know how that feels. You're unconsciously listening for it ALL night. Anyway, what snack are you giving her? Something store bought? If she's vomiting bile, maybe you can try changing to something more bland for snacks? I give Magnus cucumbers and he seems to be ok with them. I hope you can figure it out soon!

My little Vespa has a very sensitive stomach and vomits frequently. She will vomit in the morning if she doesn't eat within a few hours of getting up.

To be honest, at least once a month or so, she just vomits, no explanation really. But she will eat ANYTHING she can get her hands on and she can now jump very high. I used to think putting things on the table was ok but I have learned from that. She just got a checkup and is in perfect health.

Anyways, I think some dogs just have more sensitive stomachs than others. It might be that he is having a hard time digesting food when he eats it right before bed.

Maybe try giving him the snack between 1-2 hours before going to bed instead?

Thank you!!! She vomited again last night about 5 hrs after dinner-- I just don't know why??! I'm wondering if her food isn't agreeing with her now? She eats NOW! dry and a little scoop of Wellness wet. Maybe I'll think of switching her to Wellness Simple Solutions?!

I hope this doesn't last forever and it's just a 'sensitive tummy' thing... it will drive me nuts trying to find patterns! Thank you, everyone!
