I want to make sure she does not get pregnant this round.
I have a belly band on the male. Poor thing. I can't keep him crated all day. Will this be sufficient. If he gets overly excited will he still be ok?

Even with a belly band , its possible it could still happen. Not only that, your poor male will exhaust himself being around her.

The best solution is to keep them in seperate rooms. Much safer for both, and will make them both happier

oh,NO not even close, if he gets overly excited he WILL get out of the belly band, I know, LOL, boys can get their way in the most weird ways inmaginable when a girl is in heat and READY to mate. you MUST keep the separated ideally in separate rooms with doors close and gated sections. thank God my mom takes my Stud home with her while my girls are in season if I am not planing on breeding. other wise I keep one upstairs and one downstairs and make sure EVERYONE knows NOT to let them go by the stairs.you have no idea how fast a boy and a girl can tie.

My boys will take belly bands off to mark! Separate them.

absolutely keep them is separate rooms with closed doors between them. Belly bands and diapers only will keep them from mating for about 2.2 seconds.

Becky, if you are going to breed your dogs you have a ton of research to do and testing to do on your dogs.

The first question you need to ask yourself is, why do I want to breed my dogs and the second question is, if I breed them, is it for the betterment of the breed.

I hope you take the time to answer these questions and you do a ton of research on YT...

Being honest and simply put, no, a belly band alone is not enough. If there is a will, there is a way. There have been several instances right here on YT where the boy was able to slip out of the band and seal the deal.

Keeping them in separate rooms or crated is really the only sure fire way to prevent it. Doesn't mean it's fun, for them or you, but i comes with the territory of owning a stud and female in heat.

I keep mine separated in different rooms. Never used the belly band, the male can take it off.
