So Fergie is about 6 and a half months now and I'm pretty sure she's getting ready to go into her first heat. She has a noticeable smell sometimes and has been licking quite a bit. My question is, when and if your babies have gone into heat, did they mark territory a lot and completely thrown potty training out the window? I feel like Fergie is peeing/marking EVERYWHERE in the house and goes a little bit outside about 4-5 times each time we go out.

I am not going to say 6.5 months is impossible, but I would be concerned about a UTI. 6.5 just seems a bit young for a Yorkie (but I am sure not impossible) and the fact that she is having accidents could mean a different problem.

6 months is a bit young but, it does happen. A noticeable smell could very well be she is having Urinary Tract problem. Could be that's why she's peeing a bit more than normal.......I'd take her into the vet.

hmmm I agree it could be UTI, also my bailey had a bad smell and needed her anal grland express but that didnt make her lick herself more. Bailey is 11 months and just started her first heat last week. Even though she licks herself clean you can tell there is blood. She does not mark or anything. I would go check it out at the vet for UTI. Good Luck and merry Christmas

Is her vulva swollen. I don't notice a smell when pmine are in heat. But I do not have a very sensitive nose.

Yes that is a very good sign to know if she is in heat.

It will be quite a bit bigger then usual. Very noticable

. And fo the smell, Bailey smells like fish but I don't know if it has anything to do with the heat.

I have never had one to smell like fish.

If I did she would be going into the vet asap. I don't think I have had any that smelled at all.

I was reading and it said they do have a distinct smell when they are in heat, but I will take her in as soon as I can get an appointment. Thanks everyone! Happy Holidays!

Yes, there is an odor but, only distinguishable by another dog, especially a male. It's an scent that can be smelled for miles by a male especially.

Sugar is 10 months old, but still no sign of going on heat...should I be concerned? But I've read actually it's normal?

Uni didn't get her first one until 13 months! And she only gets them about every 8-9 months.

Already did. teh vet said it was her anal gland and he express them... he said it is normal smell.. that means they are due...
