| ![]() So, as far as I know, I've never really suffered from a sinus infection. I have seasonal allergies and will get stopped up from time to time and I have been down the path of bronchitis, especially when I used to smoke! I have been to hell and back with this one. It started about a month ago. I started with a mild cough. Didn't really notice much drainage, no fever, no congestion.. just a kind of weird cough in my chest. This cough wasn't raspy but I thought it was weird because my "colds" always start in my head first...anywho, after a week I reluctantly went to the doctors where she said it was due to sinuses and that I had a lot of drainage. Also, it could be my esophagus spasming causing me to cough harder and longer. Antibiotics, cough syrup with codeine to sleep, pay my $15 and out the door. Two weeks later (this past Thursday) the cough is only getting worse but still no fevers, congestion or any of the like.. However, I have managed to blacken my eyelid and bust a vein in my eye coughing and my back is now killing me. I go back to the Dr. and she gives me a stronger antibiotic, steroids, cough pills.. I pay my $15 and out the door. Friday I go to work, feel like poo.. my eye is now totally red from the corner to where the green in my eye is... I go about my day. Get off work and as I am talking to my DH.. I tell him that maybe if it doesn't get better by tomorrow (Sat) that I will visit the hospital... just in case my Dr. doesn't have a clue (like usual). As I say this, I start coughing up a lung and have to adjust my body so that I don't pee myself ( hee hee.. I cough that hard!) Well, all of the sudden, BAM! I bust a rib.. go to the ER where we take a slew of Xrays to confirm what I am telling them is a broken rib (mind you, its from coughing?!?) The xray tech had horrible breathe. One shot in the bum, pain pills $35 later I walk out... So... I have a house that we just moved into one week ago that needs paint so we can lay down the floors, boxes unpacked, school clothes bought, mom & dad are coming in town tomorrow. Kids are starting school in one week. I have two bloody eyes, yellowish eyelids, one broken rib, a bruised rib on the opposite side... whew, oh but I did forget one thing! My husband has been the best care taker I could ask for and even the boys helped out (some)! I love my boys & my new house! Whew, that was a long one... I must have needed to get that one out!

| ![]() Wow -- sorry to hear you have been so sick! Glad you have some great guys taking care of you though (family not the medical types). If antibiotics are not helping you might want to consider a fungal infection. They can set up in the sinuses and be a devil to cure, especially if they do not know what they are looking at. Hope it is not something in your new house that you might be allergic too. Make sure you check around well for any mold, mildew or dampness. Is there new carpeting? I have heard of some being allergic to new carpet (fibers or adhesives). Any plants that you have not noticed before? Sometimes a new property brings new plants that you may have an allergy to. I have to make sure I stay away from Goldenrod. Whatever it is, hope you get it kicked in the butt soon and start feeling better. Congratulations on the new home and such caring men in your life!

| ![]() It started about a week or so before we moved so thankfully its not the new house. I will have to look into the fungal infection. I am hoping this stronger medicine will work before I go and break another rib.. ![]()

| ![]() Gosh...I feel so bad for you. Sometimes those nasty sinus infections can be so hard to get rid of. Several times I've had them where my antibiotics don't work, so I go to my chiropractor and get acupuncture. It takes two times and it's gone. I hope and pray you start seeing improvement very quickly. That broken rib has to be so painful, and that on top of the other symptoms you are having...you must feel so miserable. Hugs to you...I'll say a prayer for you!

| ![]() Thanks for the well wishes. Its amazing how much beating a body goes through... Unbelievable that I could break a rib from coughing. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks things will start healing. I am being told that sinus infections are rough this year.

| ![]() So sorry you're not feeling well. I had a bad sinus infection like that a couple of years ago but luckily didn't have severe coughing. I would take the antibiotics but nothing seem to make me feel better. Finally went to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist and after cultures and biopsy found I had Staph infection in my sinuses. It was a matter of finding the right antibiotic for the staph.

| ![]() Did they check you for whooping cough. Adults can get it and our vaccinations we took as a child are pretty much gone. I've known several adults in central Texas who have had whooping cough. I'm pretty sure I did too, a few years ago, but I didn't go to the doc, so it was not diagnosed.

| ![]() I copied the Mayo Clinic website on whooping cough in adults, and I think you have every sign/symptoms - including ruptured eye vessels and broken ribs! Whooping cough - MayoClinic.com
