| ![]() OK...Here we go...Belle just had her first heat..... This is our background info: I have been working alot of mandatory OT hours lately...So hubby and I have been taking turns with the potty patrol.... Belle just had her first heat....We have been planning on spaying her but have been waiting to see what happens with some of her baby teeth...Per vet's suggestion... Hubby takes them out while I am at work....And I have potty patrol when I am home.... Question is: Belle just finished her heat....And her little mammary glands? are a bit swollen now....This is normal???? I have never had a dog go thru a heat so I do not personally know....Hubby swears he watched them the times he took them outside...We only have one neighbor that has a dog and it is a she....Not that that means anything...I know... The earliest I can get her into the vet is going to be late next week due to my work schedule....(They have had a lot of terminations so we have been extremely busy til they can get some new hires) Please tell me this is normal????? Joyce

| ![]() Zoe's were a little bit swollen and she was not pregnant so I would think that yes, it's normal but I would also say, depends on what you mean by little bit swollen. If you're unsure, I would bring her to the vet for an ultrasound. Usually around 28 days. |

| ![]() I have an Abbey myself who is 8 months old and is going through heat at the moment. I want to get her spayed as soon as I can and the vet told me you must wait 2 months after the first heat cycle before spaying her. If your Abbey has not had a heat cycle yet, I say you should be ok but as always do research : ) |

| ![]() I am surprised the vet want to do it while she is in heat. There is a greater risk of bleeding at that time. I would wait 2 months |

It sounds like the spay is scheduled for next Friday which will be two weeks after she finished, right? That should be fine. | |
