| Pros: No anesthesia. lol Cons: If an under the gums cleaning needs to be done, it can't be. If they are wiggly, it would be more difficult to see in their mouths and get into the deep crevices. If they are scaled, they need to be polished. Vibration from the toothbrush is something some dogs won't tolerate (including Ellie). In my opinion, unless your dog is too sick to go under anesthesia, I would do the best I could at home and have dentals when needed. I have thought about and still think about trying it anesthesia free, but I really doubt that they could do a thorough job this way.

| Thanks. My Mom called and the place that she gets her Bravo food was in the process of doing this to a Pitbull. The owners of the Pit were in the dental feed, but the Pit would not allow his teeth brush, constantly bit the brush. So she said the guy doing the scraping had the Pit just lying on its back, no issues what-so-ever. She has 3 Yorkies, and just hates the idea of them being put out for cleanings, so I said let me see what YT says |

| I hate the idea of Ellie going under but I think her vet hates the idea of putting her under too. If vets (not just holistic which probably would lean toward anesthesia free...I mean traditional) thought that it would be okay to do it this way, I think they would. I think most traditional vets still use anesthesia.

| Thank goodness there's Petzlife! I haven't ever had to do Anesthesia or non-Anesthesia cleanings. The biggest pro is obviously not having to put them under, but I don't know what the cons are. Not much help, sorry. Last edited by AMD; 11-21-2008 at 10:08 AM. Reason: typo |
