| ![]() I would like to either tatoo or micro chip my 5 mo. old yorkie, and would like your opinions on which to choose. I micro chipped my Westie years ago, but have recently read on a post here that it has been linked to causing cancer. I don't know if that is true or not, but thought I would look into the possibility of Tatooing my baby - it's in style these days with everyone, anyway. Perhaps she'll be "cool." Could anyone here give me an idea of the pros/cons of both? I know micro chip costs, but what about tatooing? Who tatoos? Kathy |

| ![]() I don't know about the cancer thing but I suppose it's very possible. It is a foreign body. One con I do know about is the chip can migrate to other parts of the body |

| ![]() Yes it is said that microchips can cause cancer at the site, but it is a rare occurance. Both of my Yorkie's are microchipped. I'm not sure about the tattoo. Might be something to discuss with your vet. Good Luck |

| ![]() All my dogs are microchipped but I was at a dog event where I saw a tattoo company. I was not impressed because the tattoo's looked so horrible. I know it's for safety instead of beauty but they tattooed a registration number on the inside thigh of the dog in black ink that looked like a prison tattoo or something. It was quite large also, about 2- 21/2" long. I don't know how many companies are in business right now but I hope they get better at it before I would do it.

| ![]() My parents Whippet was tattooed in her ear but after a few years, it became very hard to read the numbers and letters. I just had my girl microchipped instead. I think with a chip, it is easier to look up the owner. All it takes is a phone call. ![]()

| ![]() I suppose a micro chip is the way to go these days. Checking it every once in awhile to make sure it's still working (and in it's correct place) would be a good idea. Thanks everyone! |
