Just curious.. Is anyone here an art major?

Tomorrow is the beginning of my first semester as an art education major (I was originally elementary education and early childhood- but decided to change). I'm anxious, excited and nervous at the same time. Ahhhh. I hate change!!

i am. I have a BA in Art major in Art History and I am now in Teacher's College, first teachable Art, second is English

Too funny, though....I plan to go back to college and I will major in Early Education.

i am IN LOVE with teacher's college. I was nervous at first because i was making THE decision about what i wanted to do but it is just great. I've taught twice so far- once in October for three weeks.. i taught 2 grade 11 art classes. I taughted again for 3 weeks in December.. i taught 2 grade 10 academic english classes and i'l teach again in march for a month... in art again. And the class part (where I go to class) is great too. i'm learning SO much. So maybe when you are done art you'll want to teach

(did you not like early childhood? i could never teach little kids but i love highschool kids... they love a fresh face in there to teach!)

I have a BA in Interior Architecture, and a BA in Advertising/Creative... both were really art based programs. I have taken WAY more Art History than any one person should ever have to

I took an elementary art ed class, and I have always said I'm going to go get my masters and be an elementary art teacher...but I want to enjoy my career as an interior designer for a few more years first.

Is your program more fine art or education based? It really varies from school to school. Best of luck to you!

I took art classes in college for fun, I taught art at high school for a year as a sub...I have no degree. I also taught home school kids art (I hope to do that again) And i taught at a Christian schoo for a year. (You don't need a degree if it is privet school in MA)

Be prepared to buy a lot of supplies, and home work may be more then you expect. My drawing class teacher gave tons and tons of home work. Being a stay at home mom and only having two classes I loved it. but many of the kids in the class were overwhelmed. it depends on the teacher you have. If you go to a AC Moore hobby store you can tell them you are a college student, show id and get 10 % off the entire order...I think they stiil do this!

What classes are you taking? I want to go back and I think next fall I will. I didn't this winter cause I have my new puppy and I knew she would need me home with her.

Oh that's awesome!

I enjoyed the classes I had taken (and it was OK that I took them because most count still) but after getting more involved with elementary children and the teaching aspect (as opposed to just sitting in a classroom)- I quickly changed my mind.

I go to art school. My major is Advertising though. I'm required to take so many art history and art classes. I love them. They are sooo much fun. Good luck!! You will love it!

What an awesome job! I always admire interior design.

The program is more education based. Luckily most of the classes that I took as an elementary education major also count towards art education. I hope to be done in 4 semesters but we'll see how that goes!

Thanks for the info! Luckily I don't work- so I'll be OK with the extra work. Thanks for the tip about AC Moore! I'll definately check that out.

I am taking an education class, art history, intro. to drawing, intro. to design, and intro. to painting.
