DAWG: Quotes for Animal Welfare Fans {DAWG = Daily Animal Welfare Gab} Besides the quote in my signature, here are a couple of my other favorites. And please add your own!! “Mankind’s true moral test, its fundamental test (which lies deeply buried from view),consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercry: animals. And in this respect mankind has suffered a fundamental debacle, a debacle so fundamental that all others stem from it.” --Milan Kundera "If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my fellow creatures is to be a fanatic, I am one of the most incurable fanatics ever permitted to be at large." --William Wilburforce (1759-1833, an abolitionist and the founder of the SPCA) |
I LOVE this thread!!! The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?" ~Jeremy Bentham I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it's such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her. ~Ellen DeGeneres I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. ~Abraham Lincoln |
"Homelessness drives me crazy! I take responsibility for everything that happens to me. Everyone can pull themselves up. I have more sympathy for animals because they don't deserve anything that happens to them. They're innocent." PETA member - |
Check it out....Love this one.."A dog can express more with his tail in minutes than his owner can express with his tongue in hours." - Anonymous |
"We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals." - Immanual Kant |

Keep them coming...Ann I love this Thread......It makes everyone really THINK... |
"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin |
"Animals are such agreeable friends, they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms." - George Eliot, Female English Novelist (Mary Ann Evans) "Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is...whether its victim is human or animal...we cannot expect things to be much better in this world...We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity." - Rachel Carson, American Biologist and Novelist "The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men." - Leonardo Da Vinci, Italian Painter, Sculptor, Architect, Musician, Engineer, and Scientist |
"Things that upset a terrier may pass virtually unnoticed by a Great Dane." - Smiley Blanton |
Stray's Prayer Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair. My body is aching, it's so racked with pain, and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain. That someone will love me and give me a home, a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone. My last owner tied me all day in the yard Sometimes with no water, and god that was hard. So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away. To rummage in garbage and live as a stray. But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold, and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old. They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones, while I run the streets just looking for bones! I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can, or I have become just a "Victim of Man!" I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas, and all that I want is an Owner to please! If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good, and I won't chew their shoes, and I'll do as I should. I'll love them, protect them and try to obey.... when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone. Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die. And I've got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to Live! So dear God, please answer my prayer, and send me someone who will REALLY care.. That is, Dear God, if YOU'RE REALLY there! Unknown |
"If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater. . . suggest that he wear a tail." - Fran Lebowitz "You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, `My God, you're RIGHT! I NEVER would've thought of that!'" - Dave Barry "Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace." - Milan Kundera "My husband and I are either going to buy a dog or have a child. We can't decide whether to ruin our carpets or ruin our lives." - Rita Rudner "Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail." - Henry Wheeler Shaw Dogs are miracles with paws. ~Attributed to Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. ~Author Unknown |

"I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it." - Abraham Lincoln Isn't it amazing how it still continues....we really haven't gotten very far, have we? |
“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth......Henry Beston |
No one in the world needs a mink coat but a mink. ~Murray Banks Ever occur to you why some of us can be this much concerned with animals suffering? Because government is not. Why not? Animals don't vote. ~Paul Harvey Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they're in the game. ~Paul Rodriguez People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs. ~Author Unknown |

I LOVE this one! Thank you for sharing it with all of us. |
oohh I love quotes..... "People who talk to their dog aren't crazy; they just operate on a different level than the rest of us" Jack Naters "The dog has the enviable mind; it remembers the nice things in life and quickly blots out the nasty." Barbara Woodhouse "Every boy should have two things: a dog and a mother willing to let him have one." Robert Benchley not a quote but I love this- maybe you all have seen it before--- The Yorkshire Terrier There are many little terrier dogs Of every size and hue, But the one I'd like to mention here Is shaded tan and blue. She's a cocky little devil And she isn't any saint, But a sappy little lap-dog Is the very thing she ain't! She struts along the garden path Her eyes boot-button bright, And God help any straying cat That comes into her sight. Her owners fear no burglars For every sound she hears, The softest, quietest footsteps Will not pass her pricked up ears. And if she is disturbed at night Or danger is at hand, She makes more of a racket Than a fifty piece brass band! |
I used to look at my dog, Smoky, and think, "If you were smarter, you could tell me what you're thinking", and he'd look at me like he was saying, "If you were smarter, I wouldn't have to." - Fred Junglcaus If you think a dog can't count, put three treats in your pocket and only give him two. - (don't remember!) If you think you are someone of importance, try bossing someone else's dog. - (don't remember) There is something to be said at how quickly a dog makes friends in comparison with a human. - Anonymous |
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. ~Ben Williams |
 They're all great:) |
Having heard all of this, you may choose to look the other way ... but you can never say again that you did not know. -- William Wilberforce (1759-1833, British abolitionist & founder of SPCA) {...one of my all time HEROES...if you've never seen the movie "Amazing Grace"...oooo...I *highly* recommend it! :)} |
"to err is human, to forgive, canine." -unknown |
