~ a dog has many friends, because he wags his tail instead of his tongue ~ |
I wonder what goes through his mind when he sees us peeing in his water bowl. :D~Penny Ward Moser |
Love this thread. It got me to thinking; remember the movie : Pay it forward? Doing good deeds now, and asking for no thanks, just for the recipient to pass a good deed on ... ie pay it forward. Well dogs do each and every day the Ultimate Pay it Foward :p |
"The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too." ~ Samuel Butler "The dog was created especially for children. He is the God of frolic." ~ Henry Ward Beecher "A dog wags it's tail with it's heart." ~ unknown "A home without a dog is merely a shelter." |
I love this thread!, I think I'm going to post one of these quotes on my facebook wall everyday!!:D |
A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance and to turn around three times before lying down. - Robert Benchley "The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too." - Samuel Butler "Yesterday I was a dog. Today I'm a dog. Tomorrow I'll probably still be a dog. Sigh! There's so little hope for advancement." - Snoopy "If you can't decide between a Shepherd, a Setter or a Poodle, get them all ... adopt a mutt!" - ASPCA In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance...everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him. ---Dereke Bruce Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the Virtues of Man, without his Vices. This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery if inscribed over human ashes, is but a just tribute to the Memory of Boatswain, a Dog. ~George Gordon, Lord Byron, "Inscription on the Monument of a Newfoundland Dog" |

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued in the next yard." Dave Barry "People use you and pretend they don't, while dogs use you in complete honesty because they have no choice, and they have not an ounce of deceit in their soul nor self-consciousness about any of this." Roger Caras, A Dog Is Listening |
A favorite The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?" ~Jeremy Bentham |

One day in the not too distant future you shall know me, You'll understand my signs, my oh so real love for you, We'll talk someday, you and I, For we share each other's souls, It is only time untill you learn my barks, my head and ear movements For we are in this world at your behest, To love, to care, to wag our tails, You are the sun, and the moon of my universe; How not can we still be strangers? |
Thank YOU! Quote:

Most all of my favorties are already listed in this thread -- including the one I have always had in my signature below. But I found a great many dog quotes to share, even though they are a bit far from the original intent to have quotes pertaining to animal welfare. Some are funny, some are true, and some just make you smile. "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." (I like this one!) -Roger Caras "Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made." - Roger Caras "Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace." - Milan Kundera "I think we are drawn to dogs because they are the uninhibited creatures we might be if we weren't certain we knew better." - George Bird Evans "What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog." - Dwight D. Eisenhower "I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive." - Gilda Radner "Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant." - Unknown "The average dog is a nicer person than the average person." - Andrew A. Rooney "If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience." - Woodrow Wilson "Life is like a dog sled team. If you ain't the lead dog, the scenery never changes." - Lewis Grizzard "You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us." - Robert Louis Stevenson "Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job." (Isn't that the truth!) - Franklin P Jones "A dog is not almost-human, and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such." - John Holmes "Qui me amat, amet et canem meum." ("Love me, love my dog.") - St. Bernard, A.D. 1150, "Sermo Primus" Personally, I would not give a fig for any man's religion whose horse, cat and dog do not feel its benefits. Life in any form is our perpetual responsibility.(Emphasis mine!) - S. Parkes Cadman Life is life - whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage. - Sri Aurobindo "Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies." - Gene Hill -- and a little poem for fun that links to the last quote above! Loyalty You can't buy loyalty, they say, I bought it though, the other day You cant buy friendships, tried and true Well just the same, I bought that too. I made my bid and on spot Brought love and faith and a whole job lot Of happiness, so all in all The purchase price was pretty small I bought a single trusting heart, that gave devotion from the start If you think these things are NOT FOR SALE Buy a brown-eyed puppy with a wagging tail Unknown This was fun -- enjoyed all of the previous entries and nice to have the thread revived! |
ROOM IN YOUR HEART Sorrow fills a barren space; you close your eyes and see my face and think of times I made you laugh, the love we shared, the bond we had, the special way I needed you - the friendship shared by just we two. The day's too quiet, the world seems older, the wind blows now a little colder. You gaze into the empty air and look for me, but I'm not there - I'm in heaven and I watch you, and I see the world around you too. I see little souls wearing fur, souls who bark and souls who purr born unwanted and unloved - I see all this and more above - I watch them suffer, I see them cry, I see them lost, I watch them die. I see unwanted thousands born - and when they die, nobody mourns. These little souls wearing fur (Some who bark and some who purr) are castaways who - unlike me - will never know love or security. A few short months they starve and roam, Or caged in shelters - nobody takes home. They're special too (furballs of pleasure), filled with love and each one, a treasure. My pain and suffering came to an end, so don't cry for me, my person, my friend. But think of the living - those souls with fur (some who bark and some who purr) - And though our bond can't be broken apart, make room for another in your home and your heart. --- Caro Schubert-James --- |
