Home agility course? Has anyone bought or built a home agility course? If you built it, how'd you know how big/high to make everything? I was at a dog festival last year where they had an agility course set up that you could try for a few dollar donation to a rescue, so ZoE & I did it. She was a little tentative the first time around, but really seemed to enjoy it the second time around. Being that ZoE's my only dog, I think she gets a little bored at home at times. I'd like to do something in my backyard for her. I'd like something small/light enough that I could move the pieces, to mow the lawn & such, but not something as flimsy as these packet type deals below seem. I have always wanted to do this with my dogs just for fun! I never knew of a kit for something like this. Thanks so much for posting this. We are going to have a ton of fun this Summer!!:D |
You just reminded me about the agility jump I made for Cooper and Max 2 years ago. I found the thread about it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...lity-jump.html What a hoot to go back and look at videos from 2 years ago. Not sure what I was thinking with Cooper's hair! |
I made some equipment a few years back. Below is a link to it. I'm also including a link to the video of Sadie on it. It shows a little of the detail. I need to get it out again and work with both of mine. It's been a while. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/agi...at-i-made.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/agi...equipment.html |
That's a very reasonable price. My sister got a home set 3 years ago that was $139.00 and came in all these millions of pieces to have to be put together for a lot of the apparatuses. The weave poles were stand alone with a base for use in apartments and houses and when the dog stepped on the edge of the base standing on the den floor, the pole moved around and startled him. He did love the jumps and the rest of it though. I want to get something like this for Tibbe when he feels better as his agility course now is quite homemade and jury-rigged. I would get this if I were you at that price. |
Our agility instructor told me to get short handle plungers (I think they are sink plungers) and use them as weave poles. I bought about 12 of the small plungers and they do a great job. I think I paid about $1.00 a piece for them. They are nice because I can set them up in on the basement floor and with the base they don't tip over easily. |
The toilet plungers are brilliant! |
About how far apart do you put the plungers? I'm thinking about making a course for my yorkie, I just don't know the measurements! My fiancé has volunteered to make it, just needs an idea of measurements! |
