YT 2000 Club Donating Member | It will take a little longer. Actually focus command, is the first thing my trainer has me do with the pups. I literally use the command focus. I'm going to suggest you start this exercise with her dinner or breakfast time. Hopefully she looks forward to breakie or dinner. Hold her breakie bowl in your hand, call her to you if she is not already beside you. Take a piece of breakie from her bowl and guide food up towards your nose as you say the command "focus". If she looks at you - happy lilt to your voice - good girl - give her piece of breakie. Continue on for several more breakie treats. Then say another command like "sit", and place bowl down for her to finish breakie. High value food treats: Have you truly explored different treat options to see if there are any that might get her excited? Here are some ideas -- 1. small piece of cooked chicken - lightly sprinkled with parmesan cheese. 2. Small piece of sweet potatoe 3, Small piece of salmon or tuna 4. Small piece of steak(lean) and maybe lightly sprinkled with a touch of garlic. 5. Small piece of duck 6. Small piece of cooked carrot - some dogs don't like to chew on raw carrot 7. Small piece of cooked egg white 8. Small piece of low fat feta or cheddar cheese 9. Small piece of a hot dog - you can get turkey or chicken hot dogs as well as the standard beef ones. As you see I rarely use store bought treats. Some dogs go crazy for "Rollover". Building the Toy Drive: Each dog is born with a different innate amount of drive. Like anything else that is not worked with that tendency can fade over time. It doesn't go away completely, it will just take some time to reawaken it. Now for these next exercises, put away an idea of self-consciousness, act and be happy and excited to the best of your ability. Pick a toy any toy, but if you have one with a squeakie in it very good. If she is afaird of squeakie sound, don't use that right away. Now you are going to keep this toy hidden away, and only take it out when you do these exercises. 1. Go to where you keep the toy. Start talking to yourself, in a happy tone of voice. It will go something like this: " Oh where have I put my toy!" Where is my Toy?? Open drawer --- OOOOOOOhhhhhh there you are!. Oh what a loverly toy - hold toy up throw up in air - catch it --- Oh what a loverly toy. Pet the toy - exclaim over it. Hopefully doing this - by now your girl is a tad interested in what you are doing. Then say ---- Oh let's go play - walk quickly or run softly with toy in hand to another room. Hopefully your girl follows --- whether or not she does --- go anyways Sit on floor - and Play with your toy. If she comes over and is interested in it.... Make a big todo over toy. Show it to her..... Say oh isn't this a great toy!. Put the toy on the floor - let her smell it ---- if she is not smelling it ---- then wag or wiggle toy along the floor. If she chases it GReat. She is starting to get interested. Let her chase it for a minute or two. Now end the TOY Game before she looses interest --- Always do this. And put the toy away to next time. You can try this once or twice per day. Remember have fun with your Gal.
