Look what I made! 4 Attachment(s) Sadie started "Playground" last Saturday. They call it playground instead of Agility because they don't compete. She's the most confident little thing around people and other dogs but the equipment really threw her for a loop because it was so big compared to her. (She's four pounds) The teacher suggested maybe starting her on some smaller equipment like a lower table, and lower pivot on the teeter board. Also they were using a ladder laid on its side to get them used to noticing there back end before we ever get on a dog walk. Anyway, I came home and made her some of her very own Sadie sized equpment. It's also allowing her to practice at home. It really does seem to be helping. The teeter board was the scariest for her and she's doing much better with the one I made. The idea is to eventually graduate to standard equipment. I haven't gotten it yet but they suggested starting with a hula hoop for the tire and a kids play tunnel for the tunnel. Also I bought six cheap (new :D) toilet plungers for the weave poles. I cut foam board to make a small jump for her. The whole thing didn't cost very much at all! |
2 Attachment(s) Here's the rest. Also, I made the table base and teeter board pivot so that I can change it out for a bigger one later. I'm including a picture of the base to show how it's made. |
Good job. That looks like fun. |
That's such a great idea! I know Sadie will do wonderful! U make a great team! HaHa.....the plungers pic had me giggling!:p very creative:thumbup: |
What great ideas! This is so cute! One word of caution though, I would maybe get a cheap runner carpet at Ross to put under the jump just so she has some traction on the hardwood floors. That way she isnt sliding and hurting herself :) Best of luck to you both in agility! |

Oh man, my boys would be SOOOO jealous if they saw her playground! Best of luck to you both! I am sure she is just loving the training time and mental/physical stimulation! I wish more would follow in your footsteps! |
Good job! |
Plungers:lol tears:lol tears:lol tears LOVE IT!!!!! |
Lots of luck with her. You made some great stuff. |
How awesome is that? I love it! GOOD JOB! |
wow, that is great! :) |
that's great !! I must admit to just loving those plungers. You are really creative. At least this weekend I can get plungers. I have a tunnel. Agility is such great fun isn't it? |
More stuff! 3 Attachment(s) Thanks for all the nice comments. We are having so much fun. It'll be nice to have a good way for her to get exercise this winter. Here's the rest of the equipment I made. Sadie is jumping in one of them. I actually made four jumps but I need to get another runner and maybe a longer hall :D before I can set up all four. Last night we were playing at running through the tunnel and the cat who is 18 years old and weighs 14 pounds wouldn't get out of it. It was so funny watching Sadie trying to get by her. |
I am so jealous!!! This rocks! I must get busy. |
How creative:). I looked at some agility equipment online and one can go broke with their prices. Thanks for the great ideas. The plunger weave poles are great. Has Mike, AlaskaYorkie, seen them? |
I'm so impressed with your creativity! Great job and Thanks for sharing them with us! |
I can't wait for a video of Sadie ripping through that home course! :D |

How ingenius. I can't wait to try making these things for my Mia.:animal36 |
Thank you guys so much. I promise as soon as I can get it, I will take a video. We are having so much fun with this. I kind of pick one or two things each night and we work with it. The teeter board seems to be her nemisis but we've graduated from the one in the first pictures. I've added a taller pivot and she's doing great with it. Tonight for the first time she kind of looked like she knew what she was doing with the weave poles (toilet plungers). She actually kind of weaved instead of being lured from pole to pole. I don't think she's ever going to be an agility champion but it is really fun and great exercise! All the big dog owners and even the teachers really get a kick out of her in class. If anyone wants more directions on making the equipment than is in the pictures just IM me and I'll be glad to help you with it. |
Would love to have the directions for this. |
Sounds like you might want to patent your plans as there is no doubt a huge market for your equipment you built. Huge kudos to you! Smokie would love some of these things, but we don't have the space for things like this. Wishing you and your baby the best with this new playground you have created!
