Getting attacked by strange dogs while walking our baby(s) Is anyone else having trouble walking their babies for fear that loose dogs will attack them? I can't even walk my dogs in my neighborhood anymore because I'm afraid of getting attacked. They seem to come out of nowhere. |
Yes. There is a young lady who likes to walk her german shephard at the same time that Raley and I walk. The problem is, she can barely control her dog. He pulls her like crazy. The first time I saw them walking is before I got Raley. I was on one side of the street walking down the sidewalk and she was on the other. She yelled at me and said "hey lady, he's not nice"....I replied, "well keep him on your side of the sidewalk or take him home". It is just a matter of time before something really bad happens. I just hope she has liability insurance! |

Thankfully, everyone in our community uses a leash, and most have smaller dogs. |
Does anyone other than me carry pepper spray with them when they walk? I'm not afraid of my neighborhood dogs (well, most of them any way) but we do back up to open space and another subdivision. We've had strange dogs running through here recently (along with the odd bear). The other night, a pitbull mix and german shepard came running up on to my porch while my husband was taking Rhett out before bed- luckily he's a big guy and was able to scare them off (with Rhett barking furiously the whole time). |
With pepper spray, I worry that it will end up in my eyes or my dog's. I sometimes carry a pocket size air horn. YT member Gemy successfully scared away coyotes with her car alarm, so I thought the air horn might be effective. |
I would never walk mine around my neighborhood. We have a park that has a half mile circle and that is where I take Callie if we are walking. There is a pit that they keep chained up down two house and across the street from me and when he even just sees me talking Callie to the car he starts pulling on his tie out hard and sounding really scary and we have had his owner tell us hes not dog friendly so I always move fast incase he breaks free. |

She thinks that she is the sh*t because she has a bad dog. If he is that bad, though, I think she will be held liable if and when something happens. Alot of times she is holding his leash with one hand and talking on her cell with the other hand. Her dog just pulls her right along. She really does have a hard time controlling him. |
across a busy street, these people have pit bull that doesn't have a leash. I was so afraid with lexi.. But we just sat on the porch together with my bf. I wanted to walk Bailey but i'm so afraid.. There are such big dogs, that I want to bring a bat with me.. But that might not look good on my part.. |
Funnily enough, when I walk Terry it was the smaller dog I had to be concern about! :D Funny, yes? He was too friendly for his own good so I would carry him around dogs I knew meanies. |
Yep, I have to take Rizzo to our local park to walk him. It's frustrating, but there are too many strays and someone in my neighborhood has a dog that they let run loose all the time. He has a collar and was groomed at some point, but he tries to attack me through my car. Unfortunatly I dont know who the owners are, and I never know when he might be out so I'm scared of just walking in my neighboorhood. It sucks, but there really isnt anything I can do, the stray population is so high and the population in the shelters out here are well beyond their capacities so trying to get someone out to "hunt" him down and pull him off the streets before some kid gets hurt is impossible. If I do ever run into the owners and they happen to speak english they'll get a piece of my mind. If they dont speak english, then they'll get a piece of my Lldys mind.... |
I resorted to buying a pet stroller. At least now I know that my girls are safe. |
I know what you mean. With my older dog Jess my Grandad takes a wooden walking stick (he dosnt need it to walk) with him just incase another dog tries to attack her. He wouldnt wack the other dog over the head with it lol! but just to get them to back off if they were being aggresive. There used to be a Boxer dog which lived 3 doors up from us, One day I was walking down the street with Jess and the Boxer just came bursting out of the house and ran straight for her it bit all her face and her side. Poor thing got such a fright she jumped right into my arms and I had to catch her. I was kicking the thing like crazy as it jumped up at me to get her and all the time its owner was watching! Bloody horrible thing it was it used to kill sheep in the area and everything... Jess was so scared every time she was out and saw it but would bark and growl like a tuff cookie if she was safe in the house and he walked past :) The boxer is dead now though... its not a good thing but atleast it cant hurt any more animals. |

When I was walking one of my Yorkies, a big dog came behind me running (I didn't see it), and kicked me in the back of the legs. My feet went flying out from under me, and my head bounced on the sidewalk, before I went unconscious. When I came too, the owner was asking me if I was alright. I kind of told her what happened, asked her to give me my dogs leash, but I couldn't make my hand hold it. I went unconscious again for a little bit, and when I came to, she was asking me again what happened. I then firmly told her, went home (3/4 of a block away), and ended up calling the police. She STILL lets her dog run free!!! I am a lot more aware now when I'm walking, but I would love to get one of those pocket air horns. Where do I get one? |
