Help Peyton's Temp Dropping - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Okay so i just checked Peyton's temp... Here is what has happend so far

6pm last night temp 100.00
11:30pm last night temp 99.9
9:30am TODAY 98.8

How is this looking for having puppies tonight or early morning? She is still eating so thats why im confused... i heard they will loose their appetite ... do they all or will some girls still eat? Also she had a little heavier pant then she did before. Right now she isnt panting but roaming around the house a lot earlier she was out of my sight and i went to check in her whelping area and she was laying in there. then about 15 min later she came back upstairs and laid in from of the fireplace. She has been sleeping and laying on her side all morning. Advice please!!! Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it could be any time today unless her temp goes back up.. Not long. Based on my personal experience of course but you really, really, need to confine her to her area and not let her roam the house especially stairs. lay your hand lightly on the side of her belly where she bulges out and see if you feel any slight contractions. My girls always eat right up until the start to deliver. I did have one eat about an hour before, then got sick from it but the others have their normal appetite. Good luck, keep us posted.

Okay so i had her confined to my room with me and i had a towel and blankets on my bed. She started what i believe is nesting. She started to crunch up the sheets and towel into a small area and then laid on the towel area of the pile she made. Once she did that i placed in and confined her in the whelping area. (Which is a large walk-in empty closet with just her blankets toys and some food and water. Do i need to take the toys out or leave them? How does this sound??? Normal?? Will it happen today??? How much longer would it take before she gives? If she does. I will check to see if i can feel a contraction. How will i know if thats what it is? Sorry first litter and nervous.

Sounds like she's definately on her way now.
Being her first litter it's virtually impossible to give you a time scale.

If it's any help, in over 30 years of breeding, I've rarely had a litter whelped during daylight hours. It's almost always been a sit up all night with mum job in my experience, with the puppies most often arriving through the early hours of the morning

My Doo Doo had her first and only litter a little over a week. Since we thought she was due July 15TH I was not ready. The night before the whelping she was in her crate and digging in the blankets almost all night, oh and yes she did skip dinner and then breakfast. That morning I had to work for a few hours, before I left I checked on her only to find her in a corner of the room on some of my clean laundry. I put her back in her crate and left. My husband called me an hour later and said " just so you know I went to the house to check on Doo Doo and she's doing fine sleeping in her crate." That made me feel better. So 2 hours after he called me I got home to find Doo Doo in her crate with 5 newborn pups and as I began to count, out came #6. That was truly amazing. So you never know when the time will come just be ready.

I'd say within 24 hrs she'll have the pups. Get your stuff ready. I agree, don't let her do any stairs. If she bangs one, a pup could detach.

Woo Hoo! I say today. Mine ate right up until time also. When the temp reached 98.8 (in the early evening) mine started digging and nesting right away and delivered pups early the next morning.

I am so excited for you. Hoping all goes smoothly.

YAY puppies!!!! Cookies temp droppend down into the 98's around 12:00PM in the day and then she had her puppy at 8:00AM the next morning!!! Good luck!!

Thank goodness all mine EXCEPT this last litter was whelped during the week (when vet is in if I need him) and during the day. This last litter started at 11 pm and was done by 3a.m. Course I was too wound up to sleep even then. i figured it was my turn to have to stay up all night. I usually am awake for two or three nights beforehand anyway. oh, the life of a breeder!!!

Ihope I'm awake for this puppy watch! Some do continue to eat and some dont want to eat! So it's hard to say for sure. But I'd imagine it should be 24-no more than 48 hrs.Watch her temp. Some temparatures go up or continue to go down..
I wish it all went by the book ! lol But most will do the "nesting" "panting"

Okay so i had to go to work i had my parents taking shifts with me as well. My mom came to check on her and her temp went back up to 100. She checked her again an hour later and it went to 99.8 i just arrived home a little bit ago and it is 99.4. She seems normal now.... Ahhhh i wish i knew....LOL I have my parents watching her jump and go down stairs when she is around them as well i said do not let her jump of use the stairs ...pick her up. So we are on guard of her every move. I want my baby to go im so excited to see the puppies. Im okay with her going as today is day 58 of her first tie. Can the temp go back up and be the start of labor as well? I havent been home long enough to see if she is still nesting but i am on the look out. Any signs that you all can see that she may still go tonight or early morning.

I hope i cant wait to share the exciting news and debut of these little ones. If you all didnt hear there may be 5 puppies definitely 3 though..... 5 heartbeats were detect unless they were the same puppy in an area! I cant wait Im going to take her temp again in a few minutes.... we will see

But can a girl go up and down and back up and still give. I have not seen her nesting at all just early this morning. Will it not be today if she is acting normal now? Help???
