GE Alternatives Okay, its the 20th of April and no one has signed up. I think a lot of us don't have time to do all of the extra things that go into a GE, like hints, teasers, smileboxes, etc. Maybe others are tapped out on shopping funds and feel pressure to live up to past amounts spent, way over the required $40. We've discussed these things a lot here but no big change has been made. Anyways, I was thinking since there doesn't seem to be much interest in the traditional YT GE, we could try something different. Just an idea. What if we all decide on a rescue to donate to, and if 5 people sign up, we pick the 5 yorkies who need the most TLC to make a little care package for. We could contact the rescue and ask what kind of supplies they need or what that specific yorkie likes. None of us would know which yorkie we have as our buddy until the end. Then at the end we could just make a post about that yorkie and their story, to promote their adoption and explain what we sent them. Or if the need is mostly financial and they are good on the little extra things, we could just pick a a yorkie to make a private donation of an undisclosed amount (at least $40) and instead of all the hints and all that, we just make a thread telling everyone about them ti try to get them adopted or fostered. I know we are jot allowed to ask for donations here....I don't want to break any rules. We could hold it in the rescue section of YT instead if this section. This was just an idea I'm throwing out there bc I don't have time and money to do a full out GE right now, but I think we all should make time to support rescues, volunteer at shelters, etc! :) What do you guys think? Does anyone have any alternative GE ideas? |
Or we could keep it local and just make a care package to our nearest shelter of things like dog food, beds, blankets, cat litter, toys, and anything else. I think its still be fun to see what everyone put together and I know personally, working in a shelter, every little thing counts!! |
Not sure how Admin feels about this, but if it ends up being "a go"...let me know ok? I would be happy to do a little something. Shoot - even on our own, we could all get together and do something - very good cause. |
Great idea Carmen I am in if its comes to fruition:) I am also available to help coordinate:) |
good ideas, I am always in for a good cause, question, am I missing something or was the signup thread removed? |
Sadly it appears it was removed :( |
i think this is a lovely idea carmen. it would really help those lil babies that need extra tlc. so sweet of you to think of paying it forward. |
oh as an FYI for those that sew several of us are going to be making outfits to give to Linda so she can sell them in the big pet expo that she attends in July to raise money for Yorkie Haven. |

It was removed, but I bet they are just going to hold off on it since sign-ups weren't happening due to timing. It will actually work out great if the plan is just to postpone the next one because I think I want to do the next one :) |
I'd like to participate also. However, one of the rules I saw for GE was I needed at least 250 posts. Not quite there yet. Starlette |

A care package for a great cause sounds like a wonderful idea. You can run this on your own Carmen in another section, if it works better there. I'm sure many of us will be willing to pitch in. Quote:

I actually don't have time to organize anything but always willing to help my shelter kiddos and I'm excited to do a GE again later this yr. |

I've recently made a donation of sorts to our local shelter and have already committed myself to Linda and the YHR to make a couple of dresses/vest for her to sell at her expo. Im not sure what funds I will have available to spare but I sure would be willing to do something in the same lines of making something that would benefit a rescue group as a whole. |
