Best way to attach bows
 
All you bow makers out there, what have you found to be the best way to attach bows to their clips? Wire? Hot glue? Something else?

What about if you want to attach it to a band instead?

A friend of mine cleared out her craft supplies and I inherited a ton of ribbon. I'm dying to make some nice bows for Cali!

I sew all of my bows together and then sew them to a band or clip using thread. The bows that I've made that are completely sewn, I'm able to wash without them falling apart. I just then have to use a stiffener on them again once they're dry.

I hadn't considered sewing them together. I like that idea; it would take away the concern about a wire accidentally poking a delicate head.

As for the stiffener, is there something special you use or is a spray starch?

I use Aleene's Stiffen Quick. I buy it at JoAnns when I have a 40-50% off one item coupon!

What I like about it is that you can spray the bows and let them dry overnight, or if you make a new bow and want to use it that day, you can dry it in a few minutes in the microwave.

I mostly use bands, as Zoe's hair is quite thin, and they stay in better, but some with of the larger slightly heavier bows, I will use a plastic clip (like what comes on a baby's hair barrette).

I have a big box of old or unwanted jewelry that people get rid or sell in thrift stores and I have found some wonderful trinkets to add to bows or sew on little dresses or add to collars. Thanks for sharing the bow ideas. These types of shares certainly get out creative juices flowing.

I sew my bows to the rubber bands. I also sew them if attaching to a barrette/clip/grip, although I know may people just hot glue them. My reason for sewing, is that the bows do get dirty when worn out, and if they are sewn, they hold up better to being washed. After washing, I air dry them and then re-spray them with fabric stiffener.

I am going to try doing them that way. I love the way yours looks and I like being able to get 2 maybe even three wears per bow if not more. Thanks for sharing.
