Making a top knot and keeping a bow in? How do you keep bows in your little puppies hair? Her hair is thin on top of her head right now so I'm scared to pull too much with bows, etc on her little hair. What is better for them, clips or those bows that have a band attached to them? Or should I wait in general until her hair grows? She is 10 weeks, I was thinking that maybe she needs to get use to a bow but if she is too young I'll wait. Also what do you put into the top knot, is it the hair above the eyes as well or just the hair in the middle of the head.. Because sometimes when she looks up the hair above her eyes looks like it's in her way of seeing. |
Target has the best tiny metal bend clips .they are lightweight, and grab just enough of that middle hair to keep it out of their eyes. They also have bigger ones to grab more hair but I'd start out tiny at first. Everything else I've tried falls out with the exception I think they have the nite plastic snap one with fabric bow that holds part of the day. |
I use little girl scrunchies I get in Walmart. They are easier to put in and take out. You have to keep doing it. They get used to it after a while. Then you could put a bow in once she gets used to having it up in a top knot. Just keep at it. I thought Galen would never leave it alone. He is used to it now |
I suggest getting her use to the top knot as soon as you can. If you start with a tiny one just at the front between the eyes that will help her get use to them and than move on to larger ones with bows. |
Thank you everyone, I put a little bow in but she has little hair on the top of her head so I feel bad when I tie it :( I'm going to keep the bow in for now for little periods of time until she gets more hair on top. |
Hi, I also have a little one and was wondering about what to use for her top knot. I will be checking out Target for the clips,that sounds best for now. Can't wait to start dressing her! :animal-pa |

I think the method of using two bands works really well. You place one band lower on forward and place the bow on that section, next gather more hair behind the bow and add another band around it all, including the bow. With this you never have the bow turning or sliding and your pup can't get it off. Here's detailed instructions with pictures. The Diva-Dog Bowtique |
The instruction link Nancy provided is fantastic! You can do a fold-over after you put the bow in and bring the back section to meet the first. To avoid tearing the hair, remember to cut the bands. I have a four year old female with super fine hair. I got non latex very small (rubber) bands at Sally's hair supply store. I think they were 100 in a tiny bag for $2. They work extremely well with out destroying her hair. |
