ribbon question Does anyone know what to do with ribbon that looks like fabric, but is stiff and not as soft. Its on a reel, but don't know how to use it for sewing clothes. Happen to have a box full. Hate to waste them, and would like to use them in sewing some how. Any ideas anyone???? |
Trim and bows for dresses? The only thing that I would not use is wired ribbon. The kind that has wire running along each edge. |

Is it bias tape? Picture would help |
What about a tutu with strips of it? Like instead of tulle, use that. May be too wacky of an idea but it was the first thing to hit my mind. Lol. ;) |
Another idea that hit me...what about taking 3 strips and braiding it for a unique trim on the waistline of an outfit? I'd love to see a pic too to see if what's in my head is what you're speaking of. :) |
I will try to post pics today. Don't have much luck with that. Those of you who asked, its not wire, tape, its ribbon but stiffer then fabric, not soft to the feel. I think its for decorative use. I don't know for sewing. Feels like starched fabric, almost paper like. But looks like fabric printed. Idk??? |
sorry guys, couldnt upload any pics. my computer is too full, not space available. oh well, ill figure something out. |
Don't forget that you can fold this kind of ribbon in 1/2 so that all the wire is on one side. Maybe that will give you some ideas. Good luck!! |
Take a piece and wet it, with a bit of soap, a bit of friction...see how it dries... if the color stays and it doesn't fall apart, I'd trust it to use as a fabric trim or bows. If not, save it for wrapping gifts. If you have wire edged ribbon... the wire can be removed quite easily, then used the same as fabric ribbon, but I would also check for color fastness. |

Kathy, you are so clever! We learn so much from you! :) |
I was also thinking it might be wrapping ribbon, my mom gave me a big box of misc ribbon and some of the rolls are like what you are describing. The rolls I have are crisp and stiff and when uncurled from the spool the ribbon still spirals pretty tight. I plan to use it for my my card making hobby, so it would be good for that and for scrap books, of course wrapping and other craft type projects. But LOL when you post a picture I could be totally wrong. |
That totally describes it. I can't post a pic. My computer is full, so I can't download the pi I took of it. But yes, it stays spiral when unraveled, and stiff. Bummer I wanted to dew with it. Have a box full. |
Do you do any papercrafting? I'm sure you could use that stuff for a unique touch on handmade cards or gifts. I would not use it on scrapbook pages since it is not acid/lignen free, but for things that are not meant to last forever (like cards) I think it would be cute. You could pleat it by hand and add decorative trim on a cards edge. Weave it for a unique background, etc. Just another thought that hit me. |
