Need help with a dress style 1 Attachment(s) So far I only know how to make the style where you velcro around the neck and then around the tummy. Lola is so hairy that her hair covers up the neck area so I would like to make a dress that has more of an underside to it. One where the neck, chest, and tummy area are all one piece, like the photo of this dress I bought at Wallmart. I searched through most of the patterns on Aymee's list but do not find what I am looking for and some of the patterns don't show the underneath so it is hard to tell. I need a pattern for a fitted dress not one that is stretchy that pulls over the head. I would like to use this style for the flapper dress. Any help on pointing me in the right direction is much appreciated BTW thanks Aymee for such a comprehensive list of patterns, for those of you that have not looked through that thread it's amazing how many patterns she found and took the time to list, thanks Aymee for doing that. |
i think i have a pattern similair to this for the bodice...its actually seperate correct. two tummy pieces sewed to the back correct?? |
the bodice is three pieces, one for the front panel which includes half the arm hole and then a piece for each side of the back with the other half of the armhole and then the piece for the skirt |
I found one on ETSY but then I realized it is computer only, not sure how I would deal with printing it out, last time I tried to work with a photo copy of a pattern the paper was not big enough to accomodate the bodice. Have any of you dealt with a digital pattern before? |
yes and you print it in quarters and tape them together if your dealing with an 81/2 by 11 ........so you need to reset it in the pdf settings. you should be able to change the page size to that then cut and tape together. |
The very first pattern I tried, a McCall pattern, reminds me of the style pictured. It is different, but the underside is whole like that. Now, I am not a fan of that pattern, but I need to try it again. It confused the heck out of me, but again, it was the very first one I tried. I'm sure if I tried it again now, I might like it better and understand it more. But if you want to try this pattern, I tell you the BEST YT'er for help with this one is KJC, Kathy. She made us a dress using this pattern and it was perfect! She rocks! Here is the pattern I am referring to: Pet Clothes | Pet Clothes | Crafts/Dolls/Pets | McCall's Patterns I know if I try this pattern again as well, I will need to lengthen the skirt. It is on the short side. I'm not sure if this will be anything like what you are looking for, but I wanted to share since I had used this one. Also, I wonder how Miss Daisy Designs patterns are on the underside of the dresses? I've never bought a dress pattern, but a fellow YT'er may be able to tell us about that. |

I have that pattern and I also did not like it. IMO it's not what Donna is looking for.. |

I have used patterns that I printed out... I loved the pj amyee made so I got the pattern it wasn't that hard. You could always take it to an office supply place and they can print it out on large paper |
Here is the pattern Dog Clothes Pattern To Sew Spring Easter by MissDaisyDesignsShop The lady told me it is just two pieces for the bodice a front and a back so that seems simple enough. I just asked her for the dimensions so I can figure out if I can print it at home. What I would do for the flapper style is to cut the bodice longer so it will have a dropped waist look. I will either attach a small straight skirt to use for the back ground of the fringe or just apply the fringe. I bought turquiose blue glass beaded fringe around 3.5" long |
That's cute. Looks simple enough. You're just going to make the fitted body part longer to give a drop-waist look, right? I've often found the easiest way to make my own patterns is using newspaper. I wrap it around ZoE, cut holes for her front legs if I need to. And then mark the heck out of the paper. I gave up trying to just use one pattern, as she grew so much that first year, nothing I'd used before, fit the next time I went to use it, so newspaper it was! |

yes that is correct, I will just make it longer. I will probably sew a wide satin ribbon around the dropped waist an put an embelishment on the side. My plan is to sew a few strands of pearls on the back as well. Hope brought me over a bunch of material so I thought I would try it out first on one of those swatches The lady said that it will fit on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper so I guess I will buy it. I like that it looks simple Do you want to come over on Sunday and help give me some advice? I should have the fabric and fringe by then. You could bring your yarn or machine so you could get something done as well. |

I also have this pattern and yes you can print it on 8.5 x 11, you just cut out the pieces and tape them together -- very easy. I have not made this specific dress, but MDD has wonderful instructions. |
