making clothes out of baby clothes? hmmm so this has been on my mind for awhile now and i have a sewing machine just catching dust in the corner for years now (gift from granma :) thought hey instead of spending money on dog clothes which is more expensive than human clothes (kinda weird ) then why not buy baby clothes and fit it for my furbaby! :D i mean i know i cant be the only person who thought of this! hopefully someone out there doing the same for their yorkie??!! not that im a cheap person I LOVE GOING SHOPPING WITH MY YORKIE! but just thought it be more fun on my bored days. what are your opinions on this? should i just go for it and stop hesitating!? |
We have a boutique nearby that sells converted baby clothes to dog clothes (slightly altered) and they sell for $45-$65! If I was good good with the needle/machine, I would LOVE to do this! |
Yes, I agree, and I even bought dollar store baby clothes! I always shrink them first, I don't want to alter them and then have them shrink. I found some really cute t-shirts with sports teams on them. I did this more when Joey was a puppy, he was too small to fit into most dog clothes. |
woooaah! now that is just ridiculous! i can get so much baby clothes with $45-$65 - waaayy over priced! :thumbdown im not familiar with a sewing machine either but im sure it cant be rocket science, after all isn't that why we have youtube and google for? lol ;) Quote:

If you can sew a straight line you can sew? I was 7 when I made an apron for my mom for mothers day. You can do it! |
of course i can! i pretty handy with a needle and thread after all that's how i was taught from my grandmother, she didn't believe in sewing machines until the 21st centry lol just need to learn a thing or two about sewing machines and im starting my journey! :D Quote:

Altered baby clothes is what Mina wears most. They are cuter than most dog clothes, they are stretchy and comfy. You can get them from GoodWill,Kid to Kid,Babys R Us,Macys,Dillards,Target,Walmart....... I just made Mina 6pr of winter pjs out of sleepers, again they fit better. Measure your baby from neck to tail and girth. I keep a tape measure in my purse incase I find something that I think will work. Because I am a bit obsessed with the babyclothes thing,I moved my antique wardrobe into our dressing area for Mina's closet, because she had out grown her tiny closet. Half the fun is the hunt for the clothes!! |
2 Attachment(s) I do this all the time. Cuter and cheaper than dog clothes. :) For the girls, I look for little tops or dresses that button in the back. I cut up the side seams and across the back to remove under the belly, turning under and hemming the raw edges, then I move the buttons over to make it fit under them better. I add a little velcro if needed. Here is a couple pictures of the front and back of some I altered for my girls. |
