Iron? Just wondering, what kind of iron do you guys use? I'm thinking I need to invest in a better iron. Our inexpensive one we've had for years isn't the best. Also, what about ironing board cover? Thanks for your input! :) |
i bought a new shark at walmart around $50 and well worth it. thing is awesome. i bought a new extra large ironing board as well at walmart its twice the size of my old one. |
I have a Rowenta iron and ironing board. I have had mine many years... |
For sewing I use a travel size Rowenta that I got free when I purchased my regular size Rowenta years ago. I had forgotten about that little iron and actually found it in storage. The big Rowenta has since died on me so now I use a cheap black and decker that is also about to kick the bucket. As far as covers, I just buy them at Wal-mart, nothing special Maybe I'll try a shark... |
My sister who sewed for years got her good iron at Clotilde, where they used to carry German import fine irons and such. She paid a fortune for it but that iron of hers is the best. She got a wonderful pair of heavy-duty steel scissors & regular steel scissors from them, too, the kind that sharpen like razors! She had her little portable sewing iron and her big, regular iron and both were top of the line, still work today, though her sewing is limited to just some handsewing today as her eyes are so bad, legally blind. But she still handsews several times a week! Makes her own gowns, pillow slips, etc. Makes the loveliest, tiny stitches and does great work. |
I have a Rowenta iron (from JoAnn's at 50% off!) Check their clearance, they had some Rowentas for @$30, just older models, but a great deal. They also have sales on irons occassionally. I have an oversized ironing board, I ended up adding a few layers of batting underneath two covers, lol. I made two additional covers for it out of an old sheet set, just to be able to quick change and have a clean surface. Right now it triples as a cutting table, grooming table, and for ironing! |
Thanks guys for your input! I need to go ironing shopping! |
I bought the Rowena professional steamer iron... It was pretty expensive ... But worth every penny!! I love love love it and no longer hate ironing!! You can find me ironing, watching tv while Charlie sleeps on the sofa! :-) ( I buy distiller water to use for steaming so I never get those rusty/dirty iron marks) |
*oops meant distilled water |
I am bringing this back up, because I am looking for another iron, I am thinking of a Rowenta. I have a 30% off coupon so using that would make this iron cheaper than other places. I just read a review where some one says it is very tippy and the slightest bump will make it tip over, they say it is top heavy. So now I am thinking know my sewing room is now my dinning room with hard wood floors and I can't take change of having it fall on the floor. Looking at the design it does look a lot heavier on the front end. Does anyone have this iron or something like this, or any new comments to add on your iron. I love the idea of the retractable cord http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-813...el-iron.jspena I have a 30% off |
