Quick question Okay I know this might be a silly question, but how do you make your harness or dress have structure to it, I guess I mean is there a backing to it you sew or what.. told you it was a silly question :p |
something like this Fusible Interfacing? |
Yes, use interfacing, but don't want it too stiff. Most all of the vests or dresses have a lining. |
Thank you for responding..I am just learning how to sew... so I did not know what most people use... this is going to be interesting =) |
When I am making a dress or harness I use fusible interfacing. It is applied to the wrong side of the fabric and I also use two pieces of fabric for the top portion of the dress or the entire harness. Once you have two pieces of fabric and the interfacing it has plenty of structure. I use a medium weight non-woven interfacing. They come in a variety of weight as well as sew in or fusible. Can get confusing lol. Hope this helps :) |

fusible interfacing: two ways to apply, This is applied with heat from an iron. The first way uses more interfacing but is easier to not get it on your iron. Cut out a piece of fabric that is a bit bigger than your pattern piece, iron the interfacing to the back of the fabric and then lay your pattern piece and cut out. You will still need another piece of fabric for a lining. When sewn together the interfacing will be hidden between the garment fabric and the lining. The other way is usually how the instructions are written. Lay pattern on fabric, cutout, then cutout a piece of interfacing to match and iron onto the back of fabric. I find that this takes longer and can be a bit messy. Good luck |

You are most welcome,I love helping people that want to learn to sew. |
thanks you once again!! I have been out of town , so I am going to the store today to pick some up, do you mind me asking what kind or brand you use? |
I use the Pellon brand. I've bought mine at Hobby Lobby and Joann. I do not use it on everything but as I am learning, I am using it more. It's great. |
