How to take measurements? Hey guys...I have been trying to fix Lumas dresses from Bella's Prissy Puppy and its taking the forever just to sew on some extra velcro :( not only that, I finished one dress and it fits now but the proportionss are so off it looks ridiculous. I'm really upset. Anyway, to ensure this doesnt happen again I got a tape measure and want to take her measurements. How do I do this thhe correct way? Mostly for dresses/dress harnesses. |
I applaud you for altering Luma's dress. I wouldn't know where to begin. Were you also learning how to knit too? If so, how is that going? :) |

Oh! And Tony's (bf) grandma told me today she is leaving her sewing machine and all her sewing stuff to me when she passes. I felt very honored. No idea how to use a machine though, I'll have to sign up for classes when the time comes. She has REALLY nice sewing and embroidery machines. |
Oh how sweet of her. I will need to learn how to sew first before even thinking of embroidery. Don't be upset there is a learning curve to every new task and I learn best from my mistakes anyway. At least you're ahead on winter wear for little Luma :D I'm still learning how to knit different patterns as we speak, so far I've only got ribbing down. All I can manage is a doggie scarf & a dish cloth  I looked into double pointed needles on how to knit socks & beanies, and trust me it looks both complicated and confusing :fainted: |
Hey Carmeow :) I can imagine how frustrating it must be to get an outfit only to discover that it just doesn't fit. Here is a list of measurements to take before buying your new outfit or spending so much time making one. Neck - Measure around her neck like you would for a collar. Add a little room to make sure its comfortable. Chest - Measure her chest at its widest point, all the way around, which is usually right behind the front legs. Length - Measure along her backbone from the base of her neck to the base of her tail. This is where her collar rests to where her tail meets her bum :) I hope this helps and I'm sorry to hear that your upset :( Next time it will be perfect! |
